I have always loved the scripture in John 14:30 which says, “I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.”

The Amplified bible says it even better…
I will not talk with you much more, for the prince (evil genius, ruler) of the world is coming. And he has no claim on Me. [He has nothing in common with Me;
there is nothing in Me that belongs to him, and he has no power over Me.]
This is the very scripture that came to mind this morning…my favorite part being, “he has nothing in me, no power over me.”
As I walked out my back yard, I saw evidence that a skunk had been in my yard.
I have become familiar with this evidence as I had long term issues with skunks last year about this same time.
This year, however, things are different.
Last year, my back porch was open underneath, as was the building in my back yard. Therefore, the skunks had a place to gather and mate and gather they did. So much so that the smell of skunks got into my house – it took me months to get it out.
My first step was to enclose the open areas around my house, the porch and the building. That would at least keep them out from under the house. However, it did not stop them from coming.
In the end, I hired someone to trap them and take them off.
This year, although I see the evidence that one has been in my yard, that’s all I see. They have no where to hide or gather. They simply have to walk on through.
This morning as I was thinking of this, I thought of how we need to do the same thing spiritually.
We need to remove anything in our life that is giving the devil somewhere to hide.
Ephesians 4:27 teaches us to give no place to the devil. The Amplified says, “Leave no room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him].”
If we have places in our life, through sin or disobedience, that allows the enemy a way in, trust me, he will come in. And once in, he will wreak havoc and leave evidence he has been there.
First, we must search our heart and ask God to show us any places in us that satan would gain entrance – and then we must repent and close those places off.
Secondly, we must continually keep ourselves filled with God and His word.
Praise and worship also play a big part in keeping the enemy from having entrance into our lives. The Bible says praise stops the enemy in his tracks. In God’s presence, evil cannot come.
Appoint My Days
Just as with the skunks, there are ways to stop the enemy from infiltrating our lives – but it is up to us. Let’s keep our hearts clean, our lives sin-free and remain obedient to the Lord. Thereby, those little pesky things will have no entrance into our lives.
My love overflows more and more, and I grow in knowledge and understanding. I will live pure and blameless until the day of the Lord’s return. I will be filled with the fruit of my salvation—the righteous character produced in my life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.
