Today is President’s Day, established in 1885 to honor our first president,George Washington. He was an amazing God-fearing man, and I am thankful he was our first president. The law of firsts is very important, especially when God is involved. And I am sure we can all agree that God was very involved in the founding of our nation. Our first president sought to govern this land according to the word of God and he made no apologies for it. As a matter of fact, you will find very little opposition to this, if any at all!
(Wouldn’t it be so wonderful if this was taught today?! But, rather than talk about how the believers of this nation took our religious freedoms or granted and allowed things like prayer to be taken out of schools, which paved the way for godly heritage to be watered down and even re-wrote, and allowed abortion to become legal, let’s look today at the foundation our FIRST president sought to establish, and then join forces with our Father for our nation to be redeemed for His glory! You know God always has the last word!)
Look at the following prayer from George Washington:
Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb and purge my heart by Thy Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of Thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in Thy fear, and dying in Thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of Thee and Thy son, Jesus Christ.
Now, there are many instances of President Washington calling on the Lord or referencing our God, but for today, let’s just focus on this prayer. What if we, a remnant in the Body of Christ, could pray this prayer and declare it over our nation? What if we come into agreement with these words? After all, the word of God is eternal. ANY prayer prayed, according to the will and word of God, is also eternal and the Bible says in Revelation that the prayers of God’s people are mixed with incense and come before the Lord. (Rev. 4:8) So, they are ever before our God! This excites me!
What can we take from the prayer above? Can we match it with scripture? Oh yes! There are several. Let me share a few with you to undergird this prayer today. I will share a line from the prayer and scriptures to reinforce it.
Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work.
1 Timothy 1:17 – Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ!
Psalm 141:3 – Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb and purge my heart by Thy Holy Spirit.
Psalm 51:2 Create in me a clean heart oh God and renew a right spirit within me. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
1 John 1:7b the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of Thy son, Jesus Christ,
Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.
that living in Thy fear, and dying in Thy favor I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of Thee and Thy son, Jesus Christ.
Proverbs 9:10 Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Titus 3:7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
Hab 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
How glorious to pray this prayer and agree with our founding father, our first president, President George Washington!
In this prayer, he
• Acknowledges the Lord’s sovereignty, – our King eternal, immortal! The only wise God and bestowing honor on Him.
• Submits himself to the Lord, asking for direction in thoughts, word and deed.
• Acknowledges the work of the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the Christ as the Lamb of God.
• Desires the convicting power of the Holy Spirit
• Desires to be like Jesus
• Asks to live in God’s fear (reverence) and die in favor to obtain eternal life.
• Blesses the Lord and declares that the whole earth be filled with His glory!
Friends, this is a prayer I can agree with, how about you?
So today, with all that is wrong in our land, let’s agree with and honor all that is right with our land, for all that is right comes from our Father! The Bible says in the Book of James every good and perfect gift comes from the Father above!
There is nothing wrong with our nation that cannot be fixed by what is right with our nation. And what is right? We were founded on godly principles. See, I know there are prayers of our founding fathers that are STILL before the throne of God. Not to mention prayers of all the saints who have gone before us – great men and women of God who are now in the cloud of witnesses cheering us on! No doubt they are saying – Don’t give up! God is with you!
And then we have the prayers that you and I pray that are according to the will of God. These prayers are alive and ever before Him. And we know if we pray according to His will, He hears us and if He hears us, we HAVE the petitions we have asked. (1 John 5:14-16) Don’t you know that Abraham prayed prayers that were not answered in his lifetime? But they were answered in his bloodline. Friends, there are many prayers that have been prayed that are yet to be fulfilled, and trust me, God’s word is true. If we pray according to His will (word) we WILL have the petitions we have asked.
God loves to work with a remnant. We, the readers and partners of A New Thing Ministries are a remnant! Let’s give God something to work with today and agree with the prayer of our first president and set his words into motion once again. As these words rise from our lips today and as often as you feel led to pray them, they will join the prayers he prayed years ago, along with others who have gone on, and our prayers will come into agreement before the Throne of God. How exciting!
Here we go – 2018 version :
Oh eternal and everlasting God, we come before You on behalf of every believer, every Christian in this nation, and we ask that You would direct our thoughts, words and work. Wash away our sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb and purge our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Help us to demonstrate Your ways to our fallen mankind and be a light for You! Daily, frame us more and more in the likeness of Your Son, Jesus Christ! And that as we live in the fear, and reverence, we will die in Your favor at our appointed time and live with You for eternity. May we win many souls in our spheres of influence so that many go to receive eternal life as well! And Lord, may the whole earth be filled with the knowledge of Jesus Christ and the glory of the Lord! And Father, thank You for George Washington, and the prayers that he prayed and the example that he set. We ask that You give us men and women in our nation, in leadership positions, in influential business positions, in education, entertainment and in industry that know You and server You. We ask for Your will to be done in our nation, in neighborhoods and in our government. We agree with every godly prayer that has been prayed before us and we declare this land is YOUR land. Help us to be vessels of honor for Your glory and we will stand for You and reclaim our godly heritage and rebuild the foundation that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of You. In Jesus’ Name we pray. AMEN!
God’s word is true and He is not a man that He should lie. How wonderful we get to be a part of the redemption of many souls if we will just submit to Him and be obedient. God is not done with America! He is not done with us! He is and wants to partner with us. I am willing! How about you?
