The other day, I watched Kelita grab hold of an opportunity that everyone around her told her was impossible. She grabbed it anyway – and reaped the rewards of it. A short time later she shared an email with me that reminded me of an old saying. One that God has spoken to me about many, many times over the years.
The saying is this; “If you ask God for an oak tree, He will give you an acorn. What you do with the acorn determines whether or not you will ever see an oak tree.”
This reminds me of Galatians 6:8.
Don’t be under any illusion: you cannot make a fool of God! A man’s harvest in life will depend entirely on what he sows.
Kelita was believing for monies to come in for a specific purpose. An opportunity came across her desk – one she applied for, and everyone told her it would never happen. But she took that step of faith – we prayed, she had sown seed and it came through, just as she prayed it would. God is faithful. You could say she asked for an oak tree, got an acorn, and planted it. And it came up immediately – or within the hour. I don’t know about you, but that’s pretty immediate to me.
I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, because it is truth. Anytime I have a need, God has me sow a seed. Sometimes the seed itself is put in my hand and then it is up to me what I do with it. Do I hold onto it or sow it? I know if it is not enough to meet my need – it is my seed. I sow it and I water it with the Word of God. God has always been faithful when I sow seed. It may not always come immediately, as it did for Kelita – but it always comes, if I refuse to give up.
You may ask God for a worldwide ministry, and He may open a door for you to serve at a soup kitchen. Is that your acorn? Or you may ask God to equip you to write a book and He may have you write encouraging emails to friends and family. Is that your acorn? We can’t always look for the oak tree, sometimes we have to look for and expect the acorn.
Zechariah 4:10 says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin…” (NLT)
My friend, are you looking for the oak tree or even for the forest, while God is attempting to hand you an acorn?
Another question to ask yourself is this… “are you being faithful with what God has given you?”
Luke 16:10-12 says, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Therefore, if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?”
If you are not faithful with what God is putting in your hand right now, you won’t be faithful if you have more. And it is very unlikely God will put more in your hand if you are not found faithful with what is in your hand now. I’ve tried to get this across to people. We must be faithful where we are now if we ever want to see increase. If we are not faithful now, we won’t see increase? Why? Because we have not been found faithful. It’s that simple.
His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ He also who had received two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.’ His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’ (Mt. 25:21-23)
Our God is faithful. He expects us to be found faithful. When we are, He rewards us with more. But first, we have to watch for and plant our acorn.
My friend, what are you asking for today? Is it possible that God has offered you an acorn? If so, receive it, plant it and water it with the Word of God.
Appoint My Days
Because I fear the Lord and delight in His commandments, wealth and riches will be in my home. In my home there will be much treasure. The blessing of God makes me rich, and He adds no sorrow to it. God will reward me with prosperity. He will provide more seed for me to sow because I am a sower. Surely blessing God will bless me and multiplying He will multiply me. Because I have sown bountifully, I will reap bountifully. Because I obey God, all His blessings shall come upon me and overtake me. I am blessed in the city and blessed in the country, blessed when I come in and blessed when I go out. God causes all grace to abound toward me, that I always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
