Is your heart and mind at rest today?
I heard a statement that pricked my heart a few days ago. The statement was ‘the evidence of your belief is rest.’
This minister was saying ‘if you are truly in faith, you will be at rest in your mind and in your heart, there will be no struggle.’
This statement, of course, caused me to ponder on the REST OF GOD that is spoken of in the book of Hebrews.
Hebrews 3:7-19 says; Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works forty years. Therefore, I was angry with that generation, and said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways.’ So, I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? So, we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
This scripture backs up what the minister said, unbelief will keep us out of God’s rest. On the other hand, if we are truly in faith, truly trusting Gods word and His faithfulness, the evidence will be the fact that we have, indeed, entered into the rest of God.
In this scripture rest is defined as; a putting to rest, a calming of the winds (love this one), the blessedness in which God dwells, cease from toiling, to make quiet, no striving to make something happen and to pause.
So, again, I ask you, is your heart at rest today? This day, is your heart and mind at rest?
For many reading this, I believe you are still struggling to believe what God has promised or what His word promises. I understand, I have been there myself. That’s why we stay in the word and stay in prayer. That’s why we pray in the Spirit, to keep our faith built up. That’s why we do all the things we do to build our faith.
The truth is, if we are in faith, we WILL BE in rest.
Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30; Come to me, all you who LABOR and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from ME, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and My burden is light.
I don’t know about you, but I find great peace in this scripture.
I am reminded of a song we used to sing. It said, ‘only believe, only believe, all things are possible, only believe.’ So simple, yet so true. We do not have to struggle and labor, we must instead only believe and enter into Gods rest.
Today, don’t harden your heart to God’s promises, only believe. He is a faithful God and He can be trusted, only believe. And as you believe, enter into His rest. Enter into the place of His presence, that place of blessedness, that place of rest. It is available to you today…enter in.
Prayer for Today: Father, I ask You to help us to enter into Your rest today. May each person reading this sense your presence, your peace and may they continually remain in the rest of God. In Jesus name. Amen.
