Saturday night, while I was getting ready for bed, my thought was, “I have never been more exhausted in my life.”

Breanne, her husband, Brandon and I had spent the entire week taking up carpet, baseboards, tack strips and hardwood.

We were working to get the house ready for much needed new flooring.

Removing the carpet, baseboards and tack strips went pretty much as we thought they would. The hardwood was a different story. After hours of trying to remove hardwood, it was looking impossible. It took hours to remove just a few pieces and we had quite a lot to remove.

The following day I had a flooring professional come look at our project. He told us there was no easy way to remove the hardwood. He said it would take time and would be very labor intensive. He wasn’t kidding. He further informed us we would have to remove the glued down flooring in the bathrooms and laundry room.

The next day I was discouraged to say the least. I had to postpone the flooring installation date, knowing it would take us much longer to be ready.

The following morning when I awoke, I prayed diligently. I prayed that it would be easier than we were told. I prayed that God would make a way where it seemed there was no way.

The next day Brandon came over after work to begin removing the flooring in the bathrooms. It was loud and messy, but one bathroom was done. It wasn’t easy – but it was doable.

It still had many more days to go…so it seemed.

The next day, Brandon came again to work on flooring. As we worked, he had an idea. One that hopefully would make removing the hardwood endurable. While I was home alone the next day, I tried his idea. I was able to move a small portion of the hardwood successfully.

Saturday, we began again, working on the laundry room and then the hardwood. To my amazement, it was coming up easier and easier as we worked. As I carried out discarded hardwood, in my weariness, I said out loud, “Lord, we really need a miracle.”

Brandon looked up from his work and said, “don’t you think this is the miracle we needed?”

I stopped in my tracks knowing he was speaking the truth.

In the Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, a miracle is defined as; a wonder or wonderful thing.

I truly was witnessing a wonderful thing. What felt impossible days before, was being accomplished. And it was being done quicker than we were told and easier than we thought. Sure, it was still labor intensive, but it was moving along.

No, God didn’t send someone to miraculously take up the flooring for us. But He did show us a new way to do it, something no one else had thought of to our knowledge. This new way was making it much easier.

A miracle may not look like what we think it should look like. It may be something simple that we could easily overlook.

It may be a word spoken to our heart that changes our perspective. It may be an extra check in the mail when we need it the most. Or it may be as simple as God showing us a new way to accomplish a difficult task.

Those words spoken by Brandon reminded me of two things.

One; God hears every prayer and cares about every little thing in our life.

Two; miracles come every day, in all shapes and sizes.

We must be watchful for the hand of God in our life. Watch for those little miracles. Sure, the big ones are wonderful. But the small ones are just as wonderful. They are just as much from God.

Today, as you go about your day, keep your ears and eyes open. Expect and watch for the hand of God to be at work on your behalf. Remember, it may not look like you imagine, but it will undoubtedly be God at work in your life. He is in the big things, as well as the small things. Watch for Him. Watch for His wonderful acts. They are many.
