I was recently reminded of an incident that took place several years ago, involving our office at the time.

We were home on a Sunday when we received a call that someone had driven their car through our building.  I was stunned.  It was a brick building.  One that you would have to go up over a sidewalk to get to.  Yet, they had accomplished breaking through the brick wall.

Today, God reminded me of this as I was studying and meditating on breakthrough.

Breakthrough is defined in one dictionary as an instance of sudden, dramatic success in a sphere or activity.

However, there are a couple definitions that I feel pertain more to a breakthrough in the spiritual realm.

In the military, breakthrough means to advance all the way through and beyond the enemy’s front-line defense.

My favorite definition and what I feel applies to us, is this; breakthrough is removing or surpassing every obstruction, restriction or resistance.

As I stood, stunned, looking at the huge wall in our building, God spoke to me and asked me a question;  “What had to happen for her to go up over that sidewalk and go through a brick wall and then a block wall and then the inside walls?” I replied, “Great acceleration Lord!”  He responded, “Exactly!”

I knew immediately what He was saying.  He was saying “If you are going to see breakthrough, you must accelerate exceedingly.”

To accelerate means;

  1. To cause to move faster; to hasten; to quicken motion; to add to the velocity of a moving body. It implies previous motion or progression.
  2. To add to natural or ordinary progression; as to accelerate the growth of a plant, or the progress of knowledge.
  3. To bring nearer in time; to shorten the time between the present time and a future event; as to accelerate the ruin of a government; to accelerate a battle.

I began to think about accelerating the growth of a plant.  To accelerate the growth of a plant I often add miracle grow.  I also make sure it is getting the right amount of sun and water.  I was doing just this over the weekend.

So, then what do we do to accelerate in the spiritual world if we are needing a breakthrough?

There are many things we can do.  We can spend more time in the presence of God.  We can increase our prayer time.  We can increase the word of God coming out of our mouth.  If it involves finances, we can increase our giving.  We can add fasting to our life.  We can have other people come into agreement with us in prayer.  This is like putting miracle grow on our faith.

These are things we can do when we desire to accelerate our breakthrough.  It’s time to surpass every obstruction, restriction and resistance.

The Bible says in Jeremiah 1:12; “I will hasten my word to perform it.”

God is watching over His word to you.  He will hasten to perform it.  He will hasten your breakthrough as you cry out to Him.  I believe we are in the season of breakthrough.  As we do what we know to do, God will do the rest.  He will hasten His word to perform it.

May a spirit of acceleration come upon your prayers this week and propel you into breakthrough in every area of your life – that is our prayer for you.  May our God hasten His word to perform it, now, in Jesus name.

Meditate on this:

Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left.  Proverbs 4
