I love the scripture found in Psalm 46:10; Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
You know the hardest thing to get a child to do is to sit still. They can do anything but that. Funny, when it comes to believing God to see His promises come to pass, we are often just like children. Sometimes God says ‘be still, just know I Am God!’
For me that is the hardest part of all; to just be still. It is much easier for me to be doing something. Anything. Praying, fasting, confessing the word, anything but being still. That’s because we often view being still as an inactive thing. But it’s not. Exodus 14:30 and II Chronicles 20:17 tell us to “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” The phrase stand still means to take your position and be still. The salvation of the Lord includes deliverance, prosperity, health, a full benefit package. Therefore this scripture is telling us that if we can stand still, we will see God fight our battle for us, knowing God never loses. He never fails.
Why then is it so hard for us to stand still? I believe it’s because we are so used to earning things. We daily work to earn our paycheck. Or we work toward retirement. It seems for many people they spend every single day of their life working toward something. And yes, there are things we have to do to be able to enjoy the blessings of God, for instance we obey the word, spend time in His presence and so forth. But it is not by our works that we obtain anything from God. It comes only by His grace.
Ephesians 2:5 tells us that it’s by grace that we have been saved. Then what is grace? Grace is God’s unmerited favor, undeserved favor. In this we see that we simply can’t earn it. It is undeserved, unmerited. I realize that this is hard for the mind to comprehend because we are work oriented. Why would God want to give us something we haven’t earned or something that we don’t deserve? Because He loves us. He so loves us that He sent Jesus to die for us and earn for us everything that we would ever have need of, it’s because of Jesus alone that we receive of God’s blessings. It’s because of Jesus alone that God grace is poured out upon us.
Now let’s go back to our scripture in Psalm 46:10, ‘Be still and know that I am God.’ Again, to be still means to take your position. What is your position? Well, if you are believing for healing then your position is ‘by His stripes I am healed.’ If you are believing for finances then your position is ‘my God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.’ You get the picture. That is your position, whatever the word of God declares about your circumstances. So, take your position and be still. The word still has a couple different meanings and you are going to love them; to be still means to relax, to let it drop, to let go. Wow, don’t you love that? God is saying “relax, let it go, just drop it and know that I am God.” If you can do that and you can, you will find a peace beyond your imagination.
I encourage you today – Relax, let it go and remember God is in charge. He is there for you, He will never leave you nor forsake you and He will never, never fail you – never. Choose today to remember that He is God and He is in control.
Have you ever tried to carry a child that was squirming and moving and kicking? Difficult isn’t it? But have you ever carried a sleeping, resting child? It’s easy. So it is with us and God. He is literally carrying you today, it’s much easier for Him to get you to where you are going if you will simply rest in His arms. Rest in Him. It will make the journey faster and much more pleasant. Simply, rest in Him.
