But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
I was meditating on this familiar verse when a thought came to me…
“I wonder if I am a generous giver?” More importantly… I wonder if GOD would consider me a generous giver?
I began to search through the word of God to find out what God considers a generous giver.
My first thought was of the widow woman whom Jesus said gave more than the rich rulers.
Luke 21:1-4 says, “And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So, He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
Over the years many people tell me they will give money to ministries when they have more money to give. This is never true.
If you don’t have a heart to give out of your lack, you won’t give out of your abundance. This widow had a generous heart. She gave even when she had little to give. She is one Jesus called generous.
There are many promises in the Bible for the generous person, I found a couple I want to share with you today.
The generous man is a source of blessing and shall be prosperous and enriched, and he who waters will himself be watered reaping the generosity he has sown. Proverbs 11:25 Amplified
He who has a generous eye will be blessed. Proverbs 22:9 NKJV
Yet, the question remained… “Would God consider me a generous giver?”
I am a faithful tither. I give as the Lord tells me to, but I don’t seek out ways to give.  I don’t generally pray for God to show me who to bless on a daily basis.
As I continued to search out the word bountiful, I found this person, a generous person, gives above and beyond what is required of them. They look for ways to invest in the Kingdom of God and in God’s people. Their heart is to give.
Personally, I am always looking for ways to go deeper in God. To be more pleasing to Him. I think one of the ways I need to work on this year is being a more generous giver.
I wake up each day and ask God who I can pray for today and that is great. But what about asking Him who I can bless financially today as well?
To pray for someone only takes a little of my time. To bless someone financially, that will take more than a prayer. Am I willing to do that?
While writing this today, I remembered a word someone I love dearly once gave me.  She told me it would be a life scripture to me, it was…
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
I remember distinctly the day I received that word. I thought, “Wow, God will make sure I always have everything I need in abundance, that is great news!”
Guess where that scripture is found? 2 Corinthians 9:6-9
But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: “He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.”
There is certainly a way to have all grace about toward us…to have all sufficiency in all things…to have an abundance for every good work. That way is to be a generous, bountiful giver.
May God give us all a generous heart. A heart to give above and beyond what we feel is required of us. A heart like His. This year, may you and I become, a generous source of blessing to those whom the Lord leads us to bless.
That…is my heart’s cry.
Appoint My Days
I give all my cares and troubles to the Lord. I don’t hold onto them or worry and become troubled. I am fully persuaded that God will always take good care of me. I am not friends with the world; therefore, I don’t receive what the world has to say about me or my situation. My heart is fixed on the Word of God!
