I love how God reminds me of things He has shown me in the past. Today was one of those times. He reminded me of a story I once heard from a friend concerning the Titanic. It was a very profound story – one that has stayed with me for years.

She shared with me something that had been discovered about the Titanic. Keep in mind, the Titanic was called the “unsinkable ship”. It didn’t obtain that name by accident, it was literally an unsinkable ship. Here’s the story she shared with me.

A reaction to fear caused the hole in the Titanic. Allow me to explain. When the captain of the Titanic saw the iceberg, he was frightened and began to attempt to turn the ship. It was the iceberg which caused a huge hole in the side of the ship. Scientists discovered that if the captain had kept moving straight ahead, although it would have caused some damage when it hit the ice, it probably wouldn’t have sunk the ship.

The Bible says in Joshua 1:7, Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.

Has God ever spoken to you, instructing you to go a certain direction, when without notice, something happens along the way to block your path, much like the iceberg that day? Perhaps out of fear or concern you make a sharp turn and attempt to go another direction.

I am sure we all have. That day, my friend said, “If I had been there, guiding the Titanic, I am not so sure that I wouldn’t have become afraid and turned sharply as well.”

Fear is often the reason we turn back or turn to the side.

Fear caused the captain of the Titanic to turn, and the result was shipwreck.

Don’t allow fear to cause a shipwreck in your life!

If God has placed you on a certain path or put a vision in your life, begin down that path and stay on it. Don’t stop and don’t look to the left or to the right. Regardless of what gets in your way, just keep moving straight ahead. As long as you are moving forward, you are still moving toward the plan and purpose of God.

Make no mistake about it, the enemy will work hard to put things in your path that may make you feel that you need to stop or turn to the right or left. Listen only to the Word of God and do only what He says. Just keep moving. The Bible says His sheep know His voice and they follow Him.

God has a flow for your life, His river is always freshly flowing.  Flowing water is never still, it never stops, if it does, it becomes stagnant, and things begin to die. However, flowing waters produce life everywhere they travel. Let your life be a life of flowing before God.

Movement is important, there is no doubt about it, but direction is vital as well. Movement alone is not everything. Movement means nothing if the purpose is not fulfilled. I will say that again…movement means nothing if purpose is not fulfilled.

God’s purpose for us is to always go higher in Him. God desires that we grow in Him daily, going from glory to glory to glory. To do that, we must keep moving and we must keep moving with purpose.

You have a purpose, and you have a destination. Begin your journey and don’t stop moving forward until you reach your destination. Don’t look to the left or to the right, keep your eyes firmly fixed upon God. He is the author and finisher of your faith. He will make sure you arrive at your destination. He is leading you, even today. Follow His voice. Refuse fear. Refuse to be intimidated regardless of what gets in your way. Keep moving forward.

My friend, YOU are an unsinkable ship as long as you stay in God. When you are walking daily with Him, you are unsinkable. He will lead you and guide you every step of the way, follow Him. As you do, may you flow right into His purpose for you.
