I’ve had a scripture on my mind for a couple days. The scripture is found in Genesis 1.
Genesis 1:1-3 says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good.”
Let’s look at a few definitions of words found in this scripture.
Void means empty or waste.
Form means confusion, and place of chaos.
Darkness is defined at to hover.
Light is defined as the light of daybreak, light of prosperity and the dawn of a new day.
Most Christians are familiar with Genesis 1 – it is the beginning of the Word of God. What I want to highlight today is how God spoke INTO the darkness…without being moved by what He saw or did not see.
Let’s break this scripture down by the definitions of the words I pulled out. The world was void, empty, a wasteland…filled with confusion and chaos. Nothing but darkness hovered over this place. Then God spoke into the darkness and declared, “light be.” God was declaring the dawn of a new day! Daybreak come! Prosperity fill the earth!
The Bible says, then God saw that it was good.
God didn’t go by what He saw or felt. He simply spoke into the darkness, to declare the vision He had on the inside … and everything changed in that moment.
God wasn’t moved by the darkness.
What does it mean to be moved by something?
Move is defined as…to impel, to carry, convey or draw from one place to another, to cause to change place or posture in any manner or by any means, to affect, to agitate, to rouse, to persuade, to prevail on, to shake, to agitate.
Today, I want to ask you a question. what moves you? What draws you away or agitates you? What causes you to shake and become unsteady in what you are believing God for?
When you look at the parts of your life or the lives of your loved ones that do not look the way you want them to look…what moves you? Does what you see with your natural eyes move you?
Does the darkness move you?
Remember, one definition of move is to shake or to agitate. What shakes you when things don’t go the way you want them to? Is it a conversation with your child? Or what you see in your spouse? What moves you in your finances…is it your checkbook balance? Or is it the pile of bills you have in your hand? What shakes you? What moves you?
We must always remember that we are made in the image of God. He lives in us. He has given us the authority to do exactly what He did. To speak to the mountain, to speak into the darkness. We can look at the darkness, whatever it may be, and speak into it and cause things to change, just like God did.
Mark 11:22-24 says, “Have faith in God,” Jesus said to them. “Truly I tell you that if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and has no doubt in his heart but believes that it will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
One translation says, “Have the GOD-kind of faith.”
What does that mean? We have the very faith of God inside of us. We have the ability to refuse to be moved by whatever chaos and confusion is surrounding us. We do not have to be moved by what appears void. We must not be shaken by the darkness. Instead, like God, we must speak into the darkness and command the dawn of a new day.
Command the dawn of a new day in your finances. Command the dawn of a new day in your family. Command the dawn of a new day in your body. Whatever you need, speak to it, and command the light of God’s Word to invade it and change it now, in Jesus’ name.
It’s time to become immovable in God. It’s time to speak and declare the dawn of a new day.
