A friend once told me a story that was quite profound. This story has remained with me for several years. I want to share it with you today.
She shared with me about the men who play in the Super Bowl. She reminded me that the men who are on the winning team receive Super Bowl rings. These rings are quite rare and easily recognizable.
She shared with me how one day she was visiting another city. She had stopped to eat at a local restaurant. While in line to pay for her food, the man ahead of her caught her attention. She said he first caught her attention because he was a big man. As she glanced over at him, much to her surprise, she saw he was wearing a Super Bowl ring.
Excitedly she said to the man, “Hey, that’s a Super Bowl ring!” To which he turned around and responded, “Yes, I played in the Super Bowl.”
As she shared the story with me she said, “I would not have recognized the man, but I recognized the ring.”
Precious few have the chance to play in the Super Bowl. Even fewer win and receive a ring. He was one of those. Everyone who knows the Super Bowl would recognize him…because of what he wears on his finger.
The Lord began to speak to me about this and show me that there is a mark, a trophy that His people carry as well. It is called the anointing. It’s called the glory of God.
Did you realize that when you seek God others can see it? Did you know that when you spend time in the presence of God, it will be seen by others? It absolutely will!
All throughout the Old Testament we find that people knew just by their appearance that certain men and women carried the anointing of God. We see the same thing in the New Testament. The men and women of God did not have to announce who they were, people could tell by their countenance that they belonged to God. Isn’t that amazing! They may not have known the people, but they recognized the presence of God.
I have always been able to rightly discern atmospheres. I can quickly tell when I walk into a room what kind of Spirit is there, if it is of God or if it is not. It took some time and growing in God, but I also came to a place where I can usually look at a person and tell if they belong to God or not. A person who belongs to God and who seeks God daily has a mark, something that sets them apart. It is His presence, and His anointing.
Breanne and I were once eating at a restaurant in Cleveland. When we were almost finished, a couple from a local church stopped at our table to say hello. When they walked to our table, the presence of God came with them. We both felt it.
That is how it should be for all of us.
The more you walk with God, the more evident His presence will be in your life. The more you seek Him, the more you will carry His tangible presence.
Most of us will never play in the Super Bowl or receive the ring they proudly wear. However, we all have the opportunity to wear the favor, the blessing and the anointing of God. It is available to us to carry everywhere we go. Abraham wore it, King David wore it, Moses wore it, Jesus wore it, Peter and Paul wore it…you and I can wear it too.
We need to be clothed in His presence. Those who do not know God need to come into contact of the presence of God. You and I may be the only way they can do that.
Today, begin to cultivate the presence of God in your life. Spend time with Him. Soak in His presence until you are clothed in Him. Until you are marked by His presence. Until you are a person of His presence. Until you…are a carrier of His glory. Then people will know…you are one of His.
Appoint My Days
My spirit is strong, my emotions are settled, my mind is sharp, and my body is healed. I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. I am like a tree planted by the rivers of water which bear fruit in my season. My leaves do not wither and whatsoever I do prospers. My steps are ordered by the Lord today and I declare the end from the beginning, in Jesus’ Name.
