Since last July, I have been walking through a challenging time. During that entire time, I pressed into God consistently and purposefully. His Word was my priority and I clung to His grace daily to come through. Frankly, when the challenge lightened, I just wanted to stop and take a deep breath. And that’s exactly what I did. At least for a day or so. Today, I am on day 3 of that easing up.
This morning, I was in my prayer room, relaxed and reading the Bible when the Spirit of the Lord spoke to my heart. He said, “You stopped pressing. Don’t stop pressing until you have reached overflow.”
Hmmm. I immediately knew God was revealing something profound to me. He doesn’t want His people to stop when things ease up a bit, He wants us to continue pressing in until we see overflow. How do I know this? His scripture declares it through the Old and the New Testament.
Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”
Psalm 23:5 tells us that God causes our cup to run over.
John 10:10 tells us we are serving a God who gives abundantly.
Proverbs 3:10 assures us our barns will be filled with plenty and our vats will overflow.
Malachi 3:10 promises us God will open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings until we have no more room to obtain it.
And finally, Luke 6:38 declares when we give God gives back, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.
God never wants to give His people just barely enough – He is the God of more than enough!
And He wants to bless His people abundantly. Jesus said Himself that He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly, until it overflows.
Is there an overflow in your life? Do you have just enough, but not more than enough? I am thankful when I have enough – when all my needs are met. But I am even more excited that God doesn’t want me to stop there – He wants me to press in until I have more than enough. Until I am in overflow. Abundantly supplied for every good work. Until I have more than I have room for. That, my friend, sounds like an exciting place to be, doesn’t it?
I firmly believe, as I have said before, that we have stepped into a time of overflow – that is, if we press into it. We can’t stop when our needs are met. We can rejoice and thank God that all our needs are met according to His riches in glory but then we must press on for more. For the overflow. For more than enough. For the windows of heaven opening and pouring out such a blessing that we can’t even contain it.
That is what God wants for you and I. Abundance. Will we press in until we possess it? I will. He is urging me forward, and He is urging you forward as well. Here is my prayer for you today.
May the Lord God of your fathers make you a thousand times more numerous than you are and bless you as He has promised you! (Deut. 1:11)
May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children. May you be blessed by the Lord, who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 115:14-15)
Now, please note this doesn’t only apply to monetary means. God wants us to have overflow in healing and wholeness as well. He wants our bodies in perfect health – Jesus died that we could have that! Therefore if you find yourself in a place today where the pain has eased up a bit and you have experienced a bit of relief – thank God for that! But do not stop until you are walking in divine health and wholeness. Continue to press in for the benefits Jesus died to give us.
The same with healing in relationships. Don’t stop crying out to God when it gets a little better- stand firm in faith until you see full restoration. Yes, be thankful in the process but don’t stop until you see the overflow in your family.
My friends, we are in a season where overflow is possible – refuse to settle for less.
