People who are filled with fear are easily dominated.

I once read a book that talked about different mindsets. The three mindsets discussed were the barbarian mindset, the Greek mindset and the Hebrew mindset. I found this book quite interesting. Today, I want to talk about one of the mindsets it mentioned.

The mindset I want to focus on today is the Barbarian mindset.

The basic operating function of this mindset is fear. In other words, to a barbarian the strength of a government is measured by the ability to hold the people in fear.

We have all seen news reports where a terrorist group went into a village and randomly picked out someone to punish through being shot to death or hung. They don’t do this because the person is guilty of something; they do it to instill fear amongst everyone else. Why? Because people who are filled with fear are easily dominated. That is the sentence that caught my attention concerning the barbarian mindset…people who are filled with fear are easily dominated.

Fear is one of the devil’s greatest tool. He knows you can’t walk in faith and fear at the same time. As long as he intimidates you with fear you are under his control. If you have fear in your life you are being oppressed by a barbarian named Satan. A barbarian mindset, keep in mind, is based in fear.

Worry, anxiety and fear, if allowed, can overwhelm us and control our every move and decision.

In the world we live in today, we can easily find reasons to fear and things to worry about, however, in reality, much of what we spend our time worrying about never even happens. Living under the weight of the “what if’s” is a hard place to dwell. Living in fear is no life at all.

The only way I know to rid yourself of fear is to replace those paralyzing thoughts with other thoughts. Good thoughts, thoughts that bring life instead of death. I am, of course, talking about the word of God. To rid yourself of fear, you must renew your mind to the word of God.

Today, if you are one of those people who battle fear, I want to share some life-giving scriptures with you that you can use to renew your mind and drive out fear, once and for all.

So, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid. John 14:27

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18

When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul. Psalm 94:19

But now, this is what the Lord says…Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. Isaiah 43:1

An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. Proverbs 12:25

Humble yourselves, then, under God’s mighty hand, so that he will lift you up in his own good time. Leave all your worries with him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7

When fear attempts to overwhelm you, take these scriptures and drive it away. Allow the peace of God to rule and reign in your heart at all times.
I know it is not easy, but it is possible. It always comes down to a choice. A choice to choose not to allow fear and anxiety to control your life. A choice to guard your heart. A choice to focus your mind on what is truth in the midst of uncertainty. A choice to acknowledge and trust in the faithfulness of your God.

Even while confessing and declaring these life-giving words over your life, you may still feel anxious. Do not allow your feelings to rule you, don’t allow feelings to make decisions for you, trust in and rely on the word of God and allow that word to give you direction. There is peace and assurance in His word, you can trust it and you can trust God.

Prayer for Today: Father, I trust You, I put my trust in You, and I refuse to be afraid. I know You are with me and that is enough. You are faithful and I can rest in Your faithfulness. I thank You for that truth. In Jesus name. Amen.
