God appointments…that’s what I call them. They are those appointments you make, thinking they are for one purpose, not realizing God has orchestrated the appointment. As it turns out, the appointment had very little to do with what you thought it was about.
I had one of those this past week.
I had made a hair appointment a few weeks ago, the day of the appointment, my hair dresser called and told me she was sick and would have to reschedule. I said ‘no problem, I will call you next week.’ The next week didn’t work for me therefore it was about three weeks before we could reschedule.
The morning came for my appointment and I almost cancelled because I just didn’t want to go. But I felt a prompting to keep the appointment – I followed that leading. That morning started out with delay after delay. It seemed nothing was working out as it should, finally I made it to my appointment.
The moment I sat down in her seat the Lord said ‘write her a check for xx amount of dollars.’ I know I had a funny look on my face because I could see it in the mirror. I said ‘Lord, I have been saving that money for the ____, is that the money you mean?’ He said ‘yes, write her a check for xxx.’ He went on to say ‘you are trusting ME for it right?’ I said ‘yes, Lord.’ I wrote the check.
She didn’t have a clue what was going on between me and God. During the time that I was listening to God and having a conversation with God, she was busy with my hair. As I handed her the check she stopped in her tracks and tears began to stream down her face. She said ‘this is the exact amount I was praying about this morning, I told God that he knew my need today and I trusted him to take care of it.’ I said ‘well, he did.’
I was blessed, she was blessed. I began to think of all the things that God had rearranged and put in place for me to be in this chair at this moment on the morning of the time she had this need that she didn’t have the money for.
I sat there and marveled at the faithfulness of God and the lengths he will go to for his children.
He is faithful. So very faithful. As I sat there thinking about this God appointment and marveling at his faithfulness a tangible peace washed over me. It was obvious and very real. I became silent and she became silent…after a while she said ‘isn’t it wonderful?’ I said ‘yes’. Neither of us needed to say what ‘it’ was, it was the manifest presence of God.
This type of God appointment happens quite often in my life. When I think back over the past few years, often when I would go speak at a meeting, I would give away more than I received. It seemed that time after time this happened, I was not sent to minister spiritually only, as I first thought, but I was sent to minister to a need and meet a need for someone who was going to be there. God will go to any lengths to minister to those who are trusting in him. He will move appointments, reschedule events and compel you to drive thousands of miles just to meet a need for one of his. Isn’t that awesome!
I love the scripture that says; “For the eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth so that He may support those whose heart is completely His.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)
God is looking, right now, across the earth to find someone whose heart is completely his…for he desires to move on their behalf. Perhaps you are that person or perhaps you are the one he is going to use to meet their need. Either way, you are one of his.
Is your heart completely his? Are you looking to him for your need or are you looking to your job, your source of income, your husband or your family? Look to him, you will find him faithful. He will move heaven and earth if he needs to, just to show himself strong on the behalf of those whose hearts belong to him. May we all be one of those.
