It was early Monday morning.  I had awakened early and decided to run some errands before work began.  As I drove, I was talking to God about how this was a new week – I was going to let go of last weeks difficulties and expect a great week in God.  This was my determination.  Joyfully, I arrived at one of my destinations, jumped out of my vehicle to run in and grab what I needed.  As I did, I ran into someone I would rather not have run into – especially on Valentine’s Day.  In frustration, I exclaimed, “Really God? Really?  This is how we are going to start this week?”

As He often does with me, He answered with a scripture.  It is found in Isaiah 41:10. The Amplified bible says it like this.

I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you;

God’s idea of help isn’t always, or even often, to deliver us from difficulties – most often, His plan is to toughen us up, spiritually, so that the difficulties don’t move us.  Let’s look at this verse in its entirety.

“I will uphold you with my VICTORIOUS hand.”

Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice.

The first thing God tells is, fear not.  We cannot be afraid that what we are facing is bigger than our God – it isn’t.  Whether it is a physical issue, a financial issue, or a family issue – God is not surprised by what is happening and He has already made the way out of it.  We must remember He is with us and will not leave us.

Then the scripture says, He will strengthen us…by hardening us to difficulties.  He will not allow the situation to overtake us, but He won’t always immediately deliver us from it either.  Why?  He is more concerned about strengthening us to withstand whatever comes our way. He desires a strong people – a people who will stand firm against all the attacks of the enemy.  Though we were not born with that kind of strength – we can attain it through God and His Word.  We must stay in the Word and in His presence when challenging seasons come.

I love how this scripture ends… “I will uphold you with my VICTORIOUS hand.”

God has a plan for us, one of victory.

I am persuaded that we will obtain victory in every situation if we keep our eyes and mind stayed upon the Lord.  That victory may not come when we want it to.  It may not happen exactly how we expect it to.  But it will happen.  We have His Word on it.

My friends, I don’t know what you are facing today but this I do know.  God will bring you through it.  Trust the process.  If immediate delivery was the best for us, God would do that.  However, if learning to trust Him, day by day, growing stronger in the process is best – that is what He will do.  He has a plan for us.  A good plan.  For a good hope, and a wonderful future.  We must trust Him in that.

Appoint My Days

The Lord delights in me for I fear Him.  I am in awe of Him, I reverently fear and worship Him and therefore, I have wisdom.  For the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  Again, the Lord delights in me because my hope is in His unfailing love!
