There is a story my Mom tells me. She has told me numerous times over the years. Therefore, it is not news to me, but it always makes me laugh.

This day, it made me think.

We were talking about my great-niece who just turned six-months old. She is a chunky little blessing. Hard to carry around. I stated how it would be much easier when she could walk. To which my Mom responded, “yes, Tanya (my older sister) walked at nine months.”

As I said, I knew this story and I knew where she was going. Mom continued, “but Kim, she didn’t walk until she was fourteen months old.” I began to think, “is she ever going to walk?!”

I laughed and said, “why walk when you can be carried!”As soon as those words came out of my mouth, I thought of the many born again believers who feel the same way. They don’t want to walk, they want to be carried.

What do I mean by that?

I mean there are some, who want everything handed to them. They want someone else to tell them what to pray. They want someone else to look up scriptures for them. They want someone else to hear God for them. Why? Because they don’t want to do the work of doing it for themselves.

They run to their pastor for every little thing. They simply don’t want to take the time to seek God for themselves.

I get emails quite often with people asking me to find them scriptures for a certain thing. Now, I will help anyone who needs help. But the time comes when you should seek it out for yourself. The time comes when you need to seek His face and His word for your answers.

You can’t be carried all your spiritual life. The day will come when you must walk.

2 Peter 3:18 says; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

How do we grow? By the word of God. His word has everything we need to have a well-balanced, spiritually productive life. I love what 1 Peter says.

1 Peter 2:1-2; Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.

I especially love the New Living Translation.

So, get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.

If we are going to walk in the promises of God, we must first walk. We must stop being carried. We must dig into the word of God for ourselves. We must determine we are going to lay hold of our promises for ourselves. We must seek God’s face, continually, on a personal level.

The Bible says to crave the word of God. This is how we grow. We crave His word. We devour it. As we do, we will grow by leaps and bounds.
It’s time to cry out for God-given nourishment.

Luke 2:52 says; And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.

Wisdom is defined as; the knowledge and practice of the basics for godly and upright living.

The knowledge of those basics is found in one place. The word of God. We need to daily, dig into the word of God. As we do, we, like Jesus, will grow in wisdom, stature and favor with God and man.

I believe it is time we walk like Jesus walked. And to do that, we must first walk. Walk daily in the word of God and in His divine presence.

“When we abide in Him, our confidence will hold steady.” KP
