Several times each year God speaks to me about honor. Specifically, about honoring those who have spoken into my life. Oh, I know you have read about honor before, however, like me, perhaps you need reminding every now and then. Today, I want to talk about…honoring the voices God has placed in your life.
In my life there have been many times I have heard a voice point me in one direction or another. While I know that the voice of God is the most important voice to know and heed, there are other voices who have brought me direction throughout the years.
The voices I speak of are those who have taught me the Word of God. Those who have ministered the Word to me. It may even be the voice of one who has prayed for me or spoken a prophetic word to me. Voices I have learned to heed spiritually.
Today God was reminding me to show honor to those voices in my life.
Daily I hear God speak to me, but just as often I will hear another voice. The voice of one who has taught me, who has shepherded me, or who has brought me revelation.
When my daughter was having Bryson in the hospital, she was in distress. Her heart stopped beating. It appeared we were losing her. I did not hear the voice of God. I heard the voice of Kenneth Copeland. He said, Know your authority!!!” In that instant, that voice ignited something in me. That voice gave me the strength and the instruction to do what was needed at that moment. It was a voice I had listened to many times, one I had come to trust.
There are many voices I have come to trust over the years. Brother Norvel Hayes’ voice often rings in my ear as I hear him say, “If you can see it, you can have it.”
Pastor Dave Roberson’s voice often comes to me when I am in a place of attack. I can hear him say, “Wonder what the devil is so afraid of?”
These voices give me insight and the strength to press forward in God. These voices, that God has put in my life, are precious to me. They have brought me through some challenging times. I am so very thankful for every voice and the words they have spoken. Many of those words have forever changed my life.
I have only mentioned a few voices, however, there are many more. These are shepherds of my heart and always will be. I honor these men and women in my life.
Do you have those voices in your life? People who have spoken to you or shared things with you that come up in your heart and mind when you need them the most? If so, tell them. Take a moment and honor them.
Let them know they are appreciated.
1 Timothy 5:17 says; Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.
Galatians 6:6 says; Let him who is taught the word share in all good things with him who teaches.
1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 says; And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake.
Let’s remember those who labor, not only among us, but often to us. Let’s remember them and the life-changing words they have spoken into our life. Today, let us honor them. Let’s let them know how much they mean to us.
As I was pondering this today, I was reminded of a story I once heard. This man was talking about mission trips and how they honored people in other countries. He said they gave them gifts to show they were honoring them. It jumped in my spirit and I felt the Lord was telling me that this is what He wanted me to do, to give gifts to honor those voices in my life.
Today, God was again leading me to honor those who have ministered to me. To give a precious gift to the voices that have spoken into my life.
To honor means to estimate the value of, to hold dear, to count someone or something as a great price and to revere.
As you go about your day today, allow God to bring to mind those who have been a blessing to you. Ask God to show you how He desires you to honor them. It may be a simple note of thanks. It may be a phone call. It may be through a financial gift, or a gift of appreciation. Whatever it is…honor those who have been a blessing in your life, those who will live forever in your heart. As you honor them, God will indeed, honor you.
