As I awoke this morning I said ‘Lord, what would you have me do today? What do you want me to accomplish, lead me today, guide me today, help me to do exactly what you would want me to do today.’
You see, I have been thinking about this book I once read, it was called ‘Practicing His Presence.’ In this book, this man daily practices being in the presence of God. He trains himself to acknowledge God’s presence 24/7.
Lately I have been thinking about how we pray and seek God for the big things and the big decisions, but we sometimes fail to seek him for the little, day to day, decisions. Those we simply handle ourselves without praying for his direction – at least that is the way it is for me.
That being said, I have decided to practice seeking Gods direction in ALL my decisions, large and small. Those that I don’t know what to do without his direction AND those that I feel I know what to do and when to do it….yes, even those. I guess you could call it practicing his direction.
Proverbs 3:6 says; In all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths. The Bible says in ALL your ways…not just the big decisions, but in all your ways. In every step you take.
The word ‘ways’ means direction or the way you walk on a path. The word ‘acknowledge’ means to perceive, to discern, to know by experience and to learn to know. The word ‘direct’ means to lead, to make straight or to make smooth. Finally, the word ‘path’ means your journey, your path, and your way of living life.
With all that being said here is what I get from it. If I acknowledge God in every step I take, if I pray and wait to perceive and discern the way he would have me go, then he promises to make every step smooth and straight for me, as he does, my path, my journey and my way of living life will be smoother and more successful.
Who doesn’t want that?!
I often see things that have this quote on them; one day you learn that the little things are the big things.
Perhaps it’s my age, but I am learning this – the little things make much more of an impact than we first think – often, the little things are the big things.
I firmly believe that if I acknowledge God daily, in the little things, there will be less big things for me to have to be concerned with. As I acknowledge and follow his lead in the little things, the big things will be taken care of as well.
God told Joshua in Joshua 1:7; turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou may prosper whithersoever thou goes. To turn not means to not depart from the way. If you stay on God’s path, the one you seek him for, you will have success along the way. It’s when we turn to the left or right, departing from his way, that things will go wrong.
Finally, Jesus, himself said in John 14:6; I am the way, the truth and the life. In this verse, the word way is literally saying, ‘I am the journey, I am the way of thinking, feeling and deciding.’ I love that!
Friends, it is time to seek God in the small things. In doing so, we will remain on the right path, the path of success in him.
