Every so often God will remind me of a prophetic word I was given many years ago, one on increasing our capacity to receive.

At the time, I had worked for Dr. Norvel Hayes for seven years. I had turned in my resignation and was about to start my own business.

As they always did, on my final Sunday at church, they called me up front to pray over me and send me out. Zona, his daughter, gave a message in tongues over me, and someone else interpreted it. To me, it was an odd word at the time. However, it has been one that taught me a great deal and continues to guide me even today.

The word was the Lord was taking me into an intimate time with Him. I was told God was leading me into a time of prayer and worship. God said the reason for this was because I needed to increase my capacity to receive. I was informed God has some things for me that I was not able to receive until and unless I increased my capacity to receive.

I remember thinking at the time… “There is nothing I can’t receive from God; I have faith for whatever He wants to bring my way.” Boy was I wrong.

Just as I was told, I spent months compelled to read the Word, pray in the spirit, and confess the Word of God. During those times, God would wake me up in the middle of the night to worship Him. It was glorious times. My faith grew by leaps and bounds, although I didn’t realize it at the time. Nothing seemed impossible as I spent time with God and daily in His presence. I was, indeed, increasing my capacity to receive, even though I didn’t realize it until later.

The time came when I was able to receive the blessings God had for me. When they started, it was a continual flow. It was the most amazing years of my life.

These days, when God reminds me of that time, I know He is compelling me to once again, increase my capacity to receive. I no longer take it lightly – I realize whatever He has for me, even if I think I have enough faith to receive it, He knows I’m not there yet and He wants me to receive even more than I do.

Once again, I hear the Lord speaking this profound truth today. Not just to me, but to you as well.

“Increase your capacity to receive.”

I don’t know what your faith level is right now, what you are able to receive, but I believe God is saying, “What I have for you is already yours and it’s bigger than you think…increase your capacity to receive.”

How do we do that?

By spending time in the Word of God. By confessing His Word over your situation until nothing but the Word comes out of your mouth. Declare the end from the beginning. If you pray in the Spirit, spend daily time praying in the Holy Spirit. Spend time worshipping Him. Spend time in praise. Do these things daily until nothing seems impossible to you or for you.

It’s a truth that we are not always ready, in our faith, to receive the extravagant things God has for us. However, in His faithfulness, He makes sure to get us ready. We only need to follow His lead. Here are just a few scriptures to remind us that all things are possible with God.

For nothing will be impossible with God. Luke 1:37

But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. Jeremiah 32:17

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20

My friends…I encourage you today – if this writing speaks to you, begin to increase your capacity to receive. Remember His Promises. Build yourself up on your most holy faith and then get ready to receive – all God has for you and nothing less.
