Over the years, at times, God speaks four words to me to get my attention.  He will say ‘be warm, be filled.’

When He speaks this, I know exactly what He is referring to.  The scripture is found in James 2:14-17 and it says; What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus, also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

I love how the Amplified says it; What is the benefit, my fellow believers, if someone claims to have faith but has no good works as evidence? Can that kind of faith save him? No, a mere claim of faith is not sufficient, genuine faith produces good works. If a brother or sister is without adequate clothing and lacks enough food for each day, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace with my blessing, keep warm and feed yourselves,” but he does not give them the necessities for the body, what good does that do? So too, faith, if it does not have works to back it up, is by itself dead inoperative and ineffective.

I don’t know about you but I do not want my faith to be inoperative or ineffective!

God spoke this phrase to me just a few days ago when I heard about a need a friend had.  I knew He was saying ‘you can meet this need, therefore do NOT say ‘be warm and be filled and I will pray for your need to be met, instead put action to your faith and meet her need.’

I live, walk and talk what I believe.  I believe the word of God.  The word of God tells me that my faith should be evident and one of the ways it is evident is when I put action to my faith.

Now, I know we cannot meet every need.  However, many times God will bring a need across your path so you CAN meet it.  And as always, He is not trying to take something from you, He is trying to get something to you.

When God spoke to me about this need, it was not a small need, at least not to me.  I had to think about it a few moments, oh! I knew I would obey but it took me a few minutes to come to terms with it.  I had been working toward saving money and God knew that and He was asking me to give it away.  I knew I had to obey, but I also knew I had to willingly and cheerfully do so.  As I said this week, giving is a heart issue.

The world calls this an act of kindness.  God calls it evidence of our faith.  I just love that!

If I have faith in what God tells me, I can cheerfully and willingly give, knowing I cannot out-give God and knowing He has a plan for me, one that is good and prosperous.

My cheerful giving is evidence of my faith in God.

Today, someone has a need that YOU can meet.  Stop, take a moment and really think about it.  SOMEONE has a NEED that YOU can meet.

It may be something simple like making a phone call.  It may be taking someone to lunch and encouraging them in the Lord.  It may be releasing them from a debt.  Or, it may be something much bigger, like taking money from your savings account and meeting a need, cheerfully and willingly.  Whatever it is, you can’t out-give God.  He is trying to get something to you – not from you, remember that.

Today, let the evidence of your faith be seen.  Do an act of kindness or even two or three.  Ask God to show you where you can meet a need and then meet it.  If you don’t see a need, do something nice for someone.

The other day I was walking through my house, as I did I glanced over at some bottles a partner had sent me, they have the words JOY on them, I just love them.  Then I walked into another room and saw my precious little Singer Featherweight one of my dear friends gave me, I had to stop for a moment and praise God for His wonderful blessings.

I suddenly realized the things most important to me are the things that have been given to me from the heart.  These are treasures to me.  Think about that when you give someone a gift.  It may be more than a gift, it may very well be a treasure.

Operative and effective faith has evidence, may the evidence of your faith been seen today…in all you do because your faith is alive!

Meditate on This:

So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.  James 2:17  NLT
