I glanced down at my phone as I heard a ding from a text. The text it said ‘are you going to drive in the storm?’ I responded, ‘what storm?’
The text was from a friend that I was planning to meet at her office that morning. I had planned to meet with her and have a breakfast sandwich together.

She responded that there was supposed to be a line of strong storms coming our way. I picked up the phone and called and said ‘yes, I am coming, and I am bringing breakfast.’

I left my office thinking about the fact that I didn’t even know there were storms in our area. You see, I don’t watch the news and I park in my garage, I get in my dry vehicle and didn’t even notice the storm clouds. I walked out of my office and glanced around at the clouds. As I got in my vehicle to grab breakfast. The Lord began to speak to me.

He said ‘Just as you are protected in your garage, so it should be for those who belong to Me, they should not be moved by the storms because they are in the shelter of My protection and My presence, remain IN ME and the storms will not overcome you.’

This was a timely word for me as I had been praying about all the things that are going on in our country at this present time.

I was immediately reminded of Isaiah 43:2-3; When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior.

As I pondered this promise from God, I knew there was no reason to be concerned about the coming storms.

I continued to listen to the Spirit of God as He gently spoke to my heart and said, ‘lessons from the storm.’

So, on I drove to the restaurant, I pulled into the drive-thru line to order breakfast for my friend. Suddenly the heavens opened and rain began to pour down so hard you couldn’t see in front of you.

Lightning was popping all around me and the wind was blowing my vehicle, yet God was with me and His presence filled my vehicle. I waited in the line, worshiping God, all the while.

Once my food arrived, I pulled back out onto the highway. With the heavy downpour there was a tremendous amount of water on the road, but I drove on, carefully, but on I drove.

I was watching the road ahead of me as I saw a vehicle drive through a large amount of water which almost stalled his vehicle and he was in a large tow truck. I slowed down and drove around the massive amount of water. As I did, the Lord again spoke to me and said, ‘always look UP, look to Me in storms and you will be alerted of danger ahead and it won’t touch you.’

By this time I was really enjoying the lessons of this storm, I only wished I could have taken notes, but all I could do was listen.

It was about a 15-20 minute drive to my friends office, so I drove on. Eventually I drove out of the storm. As I did, God gave me His final lesson that day on the storm. He said, ‘you see, if you keep moving, look only to Me, the storm cannot stop you from reaching your destination, just keep going.’

We can all learn from this lesson, I believe.

First of all, stay in Him. Stay in the word of God and don’t allow what is going on around you, in the world, to move you off that word. Don’t get into fear, listen to God. Remain in Him. Trust in His faithfulness at all times.

Secondly, look UP for instruction from God. Increase your prayer life. Pray over yourself and your family daily. Pray over your city daily. Cover these things in the blood of Jesus and again, trust in the faithfulness of God. If you are continually looking to Him for guidance, He will lead you and guide you in the way you should go.

Finally, the storm can’t stop you if you won’t allow it to. You will reach your destination.

Remember the disciples in Mark 4; Jesus said they were going to the other side, yet a storm came up, one that threatened to stop them. In fear, the woke Jesus up from His sleep.

What did Jesus say?

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? (Mark 4:39)

They had no reason to fear the storm, God was with them. Just as He is with us. Have faith in God. Have faith in His love for you.

Don’t allow the storms around you to stop you. Keep your eyes on God and keep moving. You will arrive on the other side. You have His word on it.

Prayer for Today: Father, I thank You for these lessons today. May we always remember to trust You, to remain in You, to keep our eyes on You and Your word at all times, especially in the storms. Help us to keep going God and help us to reach the other. This we ask in Jesus name. Amen.
