This morning I was reminded of something God once said to me. The words were, “Let this season end.”  The emphasis was on the word let.

I thought it was odd that He was telling me to let it happen,

The word let is defined as; to not prevent, to give permission or opportunity to and to allow.

It indeed sounds odd for God Almighty to instruct us to let something happen, doesn’t it?

Yet, when we read our Bible, we find that God has given us a great deal of authority to govern things on this earth. Psalm 8:4-7 states; “What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen—even the beasts of the field.”

If God has given us dominion over the works of His hands, as this Word states, then we can certainly delay or prevent things on this earth, such as not allowing our seasons to change.

Why would we want to hold onto something that God is done with?

Well, we may hold onto a business that is no longer making profit when God is saying, “Let it go and move on.” Or we may hold on to a hobby that has brought us pleasure in the past but no longer holds the same enjoyment. Or we may hold on to relationships that are not conducive to where God wants us to go. There are many things we hold onto when it is time to let go and most of the time, we are holding onto them because of fear of the unknown.

If we are holding on to things God is done with in our lives, we are missing God’s next thing for us. Additionally, if God has said let it go and we continue to hold on – then we are holding on in our own strength and not His, He is no longer in it.

When God spoke to me to LET this season end, He didn’t stop there. He continued speaking to me and said, “What was profitable in the last season will NOT be profitable in the next season. What worked in the last season will not work in the coming season. Let it change.”

One of the things that often changes are sources of income. We MUST let go of the past sources to lay hold of the future sources. When God tells us to let a season change, let it end, it is only because He has something better for us ahead – it is only because He is delivering us from that OLD way and opening wide the door to the NEW way.

It is God who opens and closes doors. (Rev. 3:7) God can open or close the doors but He won’t make you walk through them or walk away from them, that choice is yours.

So, why was I thinking of all this today?  Because it seems to me, even though we are now in 2021, 2020 still has a strong grip on many of us.  It was a hard year, worse for some than others.  This truth cannot be denied.  However, at some point we must…forget what is behind.

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Phil. 3:13-14

Just because 2020 held many challenges, didn’t mean God had changed.  He walked with us through it all.

Nor does it mean that 2021 or any other year is going to be bad.  God says He has a good plan for our future – we must believe that and declare it.  Nothing that happened last year changed God’s plan for YOUR future.  His Word to you in the beginning is still His covenant promise for you.  Let 2020 go.

It is not comfortable to let go, however we cannot hold too tightly to a particular season, good or bad.  We must continually follow God.  If He is moving, we must move with Him.  Just like in the Old Testament, when His presence left a particular place, the people moved with Him.  If they didn’t, His presence was no longer with them.  We must follow God into the new, even when we can’t see what is ahead, that’s where faith comes in. It’s time to move out of the chaos and fears of last year and move into what God says is ours.

Remember Lot’s wife, God had sent great deliverance to Lot’s entire family, yet his wife could only look back, even after she was told not to.  Had she kept her eyes straight ahead and kept walking forward, she would have walked into a land of protection, provision and blessing.  But she didn’t and that’s where her journey stopped, prematurely.

I believe God has something awesome for many of us. It is time for us to walk into a place of provision, protection and blessing.  The question is will we, by faith, move out of the previous season without clearly seeing what is ahead of us? Will we empower delay or will we press forward into the promises of God.  Personally, I say, “In Jesus name, I let this season end and I walk into the NEW THING God has for us.”

If God is speaking to you today…then let this season end.

Meditate on this…

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; ..
