I heard it from God first.
The word generosity.
Today, as I was praying, He reminded me of the first day He revealed the following truth to me.
It’s been a couple years ago now. He spoke it to me as I was showing a couple something I had for sale. I was continually excusing myself and going into my house to pray. Why? Because God kept speaking “generosity” to me and I wanted to make sure I was obedient, therefore I had to get clarity on what He was instructing me to do.
That day I was obedient. And exceedingly generous. Later that day, God would lead me to scriptures to confirm what He had said earlier.
For in the midst of an ordeal of severe tribulation, their abundance of joy and their depth of poverty together, have overflowed in wealth of lavish generosity on their part. For, as I can bear witness, they gave, according to their ability, yes and beyond their ability, and they did it voluntarily. 2 Corinthians 8:2-3
But a generous man devises generous things and by generosity he shall stand. Isaiah 32:8
Generosity brings prosperity but withholding from charity brings poverty. Those who live to bless others will have blessings heaped upon them, and the one who pours out his life to pour out blessings will be saturated with favor. Proverbs 11:24-25
I meditated on these scriptures. The following day I received an email that said…Let Kingdom Generosity Frame This Season.
It went on to say; “We all recognize the beauty of a generous act. Our challenge is to grow from engaging in the occasional act of giving to living from a generous heart.”
I love that…living from a generous heart.
I believe that is what God is calling me up to. I say up to because I have already cultivated a life of giving, for many years. I love to give. I know what God urges me to give, it is for a purpose. I thank God that He has given me a heart to give.
However, I believe He is calling me up higher – to not only give – but to cultivate a generous heart in my giving.
Giving is in our DNA. For God so loved the world that He gave…
If our heart and mind is to become bonded to His, we will live from a generous heart.
Years ago, when I made continual and consistent giving a lifestyle. In doing so, I opened the door to the blessings of God. Year after year, I have seen His blessings increase in my life, as my giving as remained consistent.
I believe as I make generous giving my new lifestyle, I will see an increase of His blessing. It’s His Word, it cannot fail. It says, “According to what I sow, I will reap.”
It reminds me of something I once read by Marsha Burns:
Seeds of generosity that you sow at My behest will reap an extraordinary harvest of favor, grace, and prosperity. Give with an open heart and without expectation of gratitude or reciprocation. Be My hand extended.
We are God’s hands extended on this earth.
I’ve said it a thousand times. Giving is a heart issue.
As I was studying generosity, I came across the Webster’s 1828 definition of generosity. It defines generosity as a quality of the heart and mind.
We must determine in our mind and our heart that we are going to live a life of generosity. Whether it be in money or in the way we treat others. We must choose to live from a generous heart.
That is my heart’s cry…may I have a generous heart in every area of my life. That is my prayer for you as well.
This day, I choose to be generous. I choose to bless others and pour out my life to pour out blessings on those around me. On those who speak into my life. On those who minister to me. I choose a generous heart. How about you?
