casting nets

I have taken the entire weekend to think about this subject and pray about it before I sent this out as a partner letter. One might ask why I took so much time with this particular partner letter. I will tell you. It is because the Lord has had me write on this subject a few times in the past few years. Frankly, most people don’t want to hear it. However, you are not one of those. And I am not one of those.

To be honest, this was the last thing I expected to hear this past week. However, as I was communicating with a friend and prayer partner about some things, she made a statement to me that will not leave my spirit. She said ‘here is what we are going to do…we are going to cast our nets again.’

I knew exactly what she meant, as I said, I have taught on this over and over again. I didn’t really want to hear it myself, but it resonated in my spirit and I knew I HAD to hear it. I knew I NEEDED to hear it. I knew I needed to PONDER on it for an extended period of time and prepare myself to once again, cast my nets.

I thinking ‘casting our nets again’ may be different for each person and you will have to seek God and allow Him to show you what that means for you. In the meantime I want to look at the scriptures in Luke 5 and dig into a few of the words if I may.

Let’s look at it first in the Amplified Bible. Luke 5:4-10; When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon (Peter), Put out into the deep [water], and lower your nets for a haul. And Simon (Peter) answered, Master, we toiled all night [exhaustingly] and caught nothing [in our nets]. But on the ground of Your word, I will lower the nets [again]. And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish; and as their nets were [[c]at the point of] breaking, they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and take hold with them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he was gripped with bewildering amazement [allied to terror], and all who were with him, at the haul of fish which they had made; And so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon (Peter). And Jesus said to Simon, Have no fear; from now on you will be catching men!

The words I want to look say in the King James Version; Master, we have toiled all night.

This sentence is saying; Jesus, we have toiled to the point of exhaustion. We have experienced intense labor coupled with trouble and toil to the point that we feel as if we have taken a beating. We have toiled to the point that we are so exhausted and we are now collapsing in slumber. Have you ever felt this way? I know I have.

The next thing Peter said is powerful. NEVERTHELESS. This word means BUT, which as we know, cancels everything that came before it. Peter said ‘we will do it at your word Jesus.’ Suddenly the toiling all night didn’t matter, it was forgotten. Suddenly the toiling, the feeling of taking a beating, the utter exhaustion was gone and only the word of the Lord was left. All the disappointments of catching nothing were gone and they cast their nets one more time. At the word of the Lord, they cast their net and every single one of them were amazed and astounded at the amount of haul they caught.

The fish didn’t just come to them, FIRST, they had to cast their nets one more time. They had to cast their nets as if they had not had a terribly disappointing season of fishing. They had to cast in hope. This is what God is telling me as well. Forget about the times you have cast your net and brought back nothing. Forget the toil. Forget the labor. Forget the beating….remember nothing but My word, do this at My word.

How about you? Have you cast your net so many times that you can’t even remember? Have you been disappointed? I am sure many of us have. Forget all that. Forget all that and listen for one thing; His word. His voice. His instruction. Cast your net as if you have never been disappointed.

This month is a month of casting our nets one more time for A New Thing Ministries and for Kim Potter, how about you? Will you cast your nets one more time? Can you forget the times of disappointment and cast again?

As you sow your seed this month, sow it as a NEVERTHELESS seed. As we cast our seed together it is my prayer that we all, every single one of us, will be astounded and amazed at the haul….may it be so God.

I found this picture to use for this partner teaching. I LOVE it. It shows not one person casting a net, but several. I see this in my spirit this month. Many nets casting all across the ocean of God’s spirit. Bringing in a haul.

This month, ask God what He would have you do as casting your net one more time and then, simply obey. Nothing else is required. Simply cast it by faith and trust and watch what God will do.

This month…may you be astounded and amazed at what your God will do.

Many Blessings!
Kim Potter
