I heard a man say, ‘meditation is a missing link in the Body of Christ.’ While it was a simple statement, I could not get it off my mind today.
I immediately thought of the scripture found in Joshua 1:8:

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

The word meditate is defined in Noah Webster’s 1828 dictionary as close or continued thought, the turning or revolving of a subject in the mind, serious contemplation.

It is also defined as to resolve in the mind, to imagine or premeditate.

As I studied this word, I was amazed to find the many scriptures on meditation. Let me share a few with you:

And Isaac went out to meditate in the field in the evening; and he lifted his eyes and looked, and there, the camels were coming. Genesis 24:63
Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah. Psalm 4:4
When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Psalm 63:6
Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, And the Lord listened and heard them; So, a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the Lord And who meditate on His name. Malachi 3:16

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8
Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. 1 Timothy 4:15

Meditation is not a new age thing, it is a GOD thing. God has instructed us concerning meditation.

Just as He said in the book of Joshua, if we meditate on God’s word and implement His word into our daily life, we are promised success. That alone, is enough reason to mediate on God’s word.

The Bible says in Proverbs 23:7; as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. What are you meditating on today?

What is rolling over and over in your mind today? Is it the problem or the answer? It is the lack or the word of God that promises provision? It is the sickness or the word of God that declares ‘by HIS stripes you WERE healed? What are you meditating on today?

Bill Winston says, ‘meditation is a God-given process that causes a permanent change in our thinking.’

Before we see any kind of change in our natural circumstances, our mind must change. Our thoughts must change and line up with Gods word. That is where the breakthrough begins…in our thinking. Once we begin to think like God we will begin to see like God. And when we get to the place that we see it in our spirit, it is ours! This is where meditation plays such an important part in our success! It is not enough to hear a message preached on Sunday night and get excited about it.

You must then take that scripture that exploded in your spirit and mediate on it until it becomes a part of you. Once it becomes a part of you, you will see it with your spirit. Once that happens, breakthrough is imminent. And breakthrough is what we are after, right? Well, then, it begins with meditation.

Today, purpose in your heart to begin a life of meditation. Meditate on the word of God day and night. Meditate until the word of God is bigger on the inside of you than what you see or hear on the outside…change your mind and you will change your life.

Prayer for today: Father, today, teach us to meditate on your word…help us change our mind and change our life. In Jesus name. Amen.
