Mustard Seed Faith

Over the weekend, I was reflecting on a familiar scripture found in Luke 17:6.

So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”

As I read over it and meditated on it for a few days, I saw it differently.  I love that about the word of God.  It is alive and full of power.

I again read the scripture in Luke, but it came to me like this;

If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree.

In other words, if I have faith that healing was paid for at the cross, I would say, “By His stripes I am healed.”  I wouldn’t say, “I hope I get healed, or I hope I don’t get this virus.”  No, IF I had faith, my words will declare what I have faith in.

If I believe God is going to restore our nation and turn it back to Him, I wouldn’t say things like;

“Our nation is failing.”

“We will never go back to a good life again.”

“This is the new normal.”

Whatever I truly have faith in, is coming out of my mouth.  It is out of the abundance of the heart that our mouths speak.  The Bible says so.

What is coming out of your mouth?

If I am speaking fear and dread, that shows where my faith is.  However, if I am speaking hope and what God says, it is evident my faith remains in Him.

Now, let’s look at the rest of the scripture.

“and it would obey you.”

Take a moment and think about this amazing promise from God’s word.

If we have the faith to speak to the problem and in faith, declare God’s word over it, it will obey us.

Isn’t that awesome!  We can speak to the situation and it must obey us.

It is time we stop complaining about what is going on around us and speak to it!  Speak with the God kind of faith in our heart.  And expect it to obey us, because that is the promise of God.

Two things I want you to remember from this writing.

  1. If you have faith – you will speak to the mountain.
  2. When you speak to it in faith – it will obey

Now, take that faith as a grain of mustard seed and speak to your mountain.  It will hear and obey.

Meditate on this:

And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.  Matthew 21:22
