I love quotes. I read them often. The other night I read one by Winston Churchill that caused me to begin to think about some of the things I have been standing in faith for.
The quote stated; Never give up on something you can’t go a day without thinking about.
As I pondered that statement in my mind, I began to think about some of the things I am praying about. Which of them are things that I think about each and every day?
Psalm 37:4 says; Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
I have no doubt that God will give us the desires of our heart. The question is, which are true desires? Which are passing thoughts?
There may be things in our life that we wish were different.
Desires are different from wishes. A wish is something we hope will happen. But when it is a desire, it is something we long for. And not only something we long for.
In the Webster’s 1828 Dictionary it defines a desire as something we long for and reach toward. Something we intensely and passionately, reach for.
How do we reach for a desire?
We do that with our prayers. With our confession. And with the word of God.
But back to the quote…I still had to think about my prayers and discern which were desires and which were simply things I hoped would come to pass.
Over the years, I have prayed about things that turned out to not be desires after all. I didn’t know it at the time, but those things that were not desires slipped away. Most of the time without me really noticing.
Other things, true desires are still in my heart, even if it has been years. Those are my desires. Not hopes. Not wishes. Desires.
One way I know that is because these are things I have not only desired, not only longed for, but have continued to reach toward.
I have continued to reach toward them with my prayers. With my confessions. With digging into the word of God and standing firm on His word. And I have continually worked toward this desired end result, in the natural. I am not only reaching spiritually, I am also reaching in natural, physical ways. These, I am certain, are my desires. These are the things that God will bring to pass. He will give me the desires of my heart. I have His word on it.
Today, I want you to think about the things you have been praying for, standing in faith for. Are they desires or wishes? Which are the things you think about every single day?
Now, I am not saying that God won’t give us things we hope for, things that are not necessarily desires. He certainly can. What I am saying is never give up on your true desires. Never give up on those things you think about every day of your life. Never give up. The word of God says we will receive the promise if we refuse to give up. I believe that word. I know you do too.
Today, my prayer and declaration over you is from Psalm 20:4; May God grant your hearts desires and fulfill all your plans, this very year!
Meditate on this:
You need to persevere, so that after you have done God’s will, you will receive what He has promised. Hebrews 10:36
