One-night last week, I was having some quiet time with God. To be totally transparent, I was talking to Him about some things I had been praying about, that I had not yet seen the answers to. I was saying, “God, if I am missing something, please show me.” Instead of answering my question, He gave me some profound insight.
He began to speak to my heart and say, “Remember when you prayed for your daughter’s teeth, about the large gap in them, and I straightened them?” Remember when you were bitten by a brown recluse, and I healed you?” Remember the time your vehicle broke down hours from home and you prayed, and I made it work until you arrived home? Remember how the mechanic told you the next day that what you were saying was impossible? Remember all the times you have had a need and you prayed, and I met that need? Do you remember all the things I have done for you? Remember the time you gave your last $2 in an offering, and I gave you $400 before you left the building?”
Ahhh. I saw exactly what He was doing. The Bible says in Revelation 12:11, we overcome the devil (and any doubt that comes our way) by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.
God was urging me to take my mind off what I wasn’t seeing and placing it firmly back on His faithfulness. He was reminding me of what I had seen. The many times His wonderful hand had been evident in my life.
Psalm 77:11-12 says, “I will remember the works of the Lord; Surely, I will remember Your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all Your work and talk of Your deeds.”
I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands. (Ps 143:5)
Later that day, I was talking with a friend on the phone. She began to share with me how the Lord had her meditating on all the wonderful things He had done in her life. She even said God was having her take the time to write down the things she had experienced God doing in her life – she was making a memorial writing of her testimonies. “What a wonderful idea”, I thought.
I knew our conversation was no coincidence. God was confirming what He was showing me.
Times can get hard. We all go through challenges. We all have days when we are crying out to God, wondering why we are not seeing His hand at work in our life. We must remember, He has given us the answer to that dilemma. We overcome…by the blood of Jesus…AND…by the word of our testimony.
I don’t know what you are going through today, but I would almost bet, even if you are in the midst of a challenge at the moment, there have been times when you have seen God do miraculous things in your life. If not for you personally, then for family or a loved one. Why not think on those things instead of being discouraged about what you are not seeing today. You can even take it a step further and do like my friend and write down all the wonderful things you have seen God do. It will be so encouraging, not only to you, but to everyone you share it with. It will become a memorial of remembrance.
Philippians 4:8 teaches us; Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
The Word of God is clear, we are to… remember the works of the Lord. We must meditate on all He had done and continually talk of His wonderous deeds. May the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart be always, always, pleasing to the Lord and may we never forget, not for one day, to dwell on His faithfulness.
