Saturday morning began like every other Saturday. However, as my feet hit the floor, I realized I was weary from the challenges of the previous week.
It wasn’t anything personal. It was with the negative things going on in our nation.
I had long stopped reading facebook posts. I no longer watched the news. It seemed to me that there were negative thoughts and mud slinging on both sides. Christian and non-Christian alike. Frankly, I was weary of it. I wanted no part of it.
Instead I turned to God.
That morning, I grabbed my Bible. I quietly said to God, “You said your word was alive and full of power, show me LIFE this morning.”
He immediately led me to a scripture that spoke specifically into this very area. I knew I had found His rhema word on the subject. Suddenly, my heart was at peace. Total peace. One word from God really does change everything.
I no longer thought about it. For me, it was a settled issue. I didn’t even pray about it another time. God had spoken. That was enough for me.
The word of God comes with all the power needed to settle an issue. It is alive! It is powerful! It cuts through all the garbage and reveals truth. Every single time.
Hebrews 4:12 in the Amplified Bible says; For the word of God is living and active and full of power, making it operative, energizing, and effective.
One word from God. One word of hope. One word of freedom. One word of love. It is all it took to wash away the weariness of the week. Just one word.
I began to think about times in the Bible when one word changed everything.
We find the power of a word in Luke 7:6-7.
Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
This man of authority knew all it would take was one word from Jesus.
In Matthew 14:29, we again see the power of a word from Jesus.
“Lord, if it is You,” Peter replied, “command me to come to You on the water.” “Come”, said Jesus. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus.
Jesus said come and Peter walked on water. He continued to walk on water until he took his eyes off Jesus. He moved his eyes to everything that was going on around him. Then and only then, he began to sink.
Today, I believe we should take a lesson from Peter.
Do not get your eyes on the chaos going on in the world. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Keep your eyes on His word. Don’t get involved in the mud-slinging. Instead, seek God and ask Him to give you a word to walk on. Then walk on that word.
One word from God will change everything.
