Recently I read an article stating how many born again Christians read their Bible consistently. This study showed that only three percent of Christians daily read their Bible. 3 %! My first thought was, “how can that be true?” However, if I look around and see how many Christians are struggling in their faith, I can believe this study.
I do not understand how we think we can live a life of victory while ignoring the Word of God.
It is the Word of God and staying in that Word that brings change or success in life. It is the Word that brings peace. It is the Word that contains healing. The Bible teaches us that JESUS is the WORD. The Word became flesh (Jesus) and dwelt among us. There are so many things that come from meditating in the Word of God, allow me to share a few of them with you today.
Success
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8
Consistent Faith
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Romans 10:17
Freedom
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32
Direction
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2
A Holy Life
Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11
Healing
He sent His Word and healed them and delivered them from their destructions. Psalm 107:20
As stated previously, there are many, many benefits that come with reading and meditating the Word of God daily, I have only shared a few. Please note…these things come from reading the Word of God consistently and diligently. Daily. It is truly our daily bread, our daily nourishment.
If we refuse to eat of what God has provided for us – we will not be nourished, encouraged, or equipped to handle the challenges each day brings. Yet, with the Word of God daily infusing us, we will succeed. We will prosper. We will be at peace. We will walk in His wisdom. Everything we have need of is found in the Word of God but if we refuse to read it – how will we ever lay hold of it.
I want to challenge you today. If you do not have a set aside time to read the Bible daily. It’s time to change that. Set aside ten to fifteen minutes each day. Read your Bible. Meditate on His Word. Let it get deep inside of you. It will change things in you and then it will change things around it. The Word works – let it do its work by putting it on the inside of you. The challenge…for the next 30 days, read your Bible each and every day. You don’t have to read for hours – just read. Then, take what you have read and meditate on it throughout the day. It will change your life.
Remember, the Word became flesh. Jesus is that Word. When you put the Word in your heart and mind you put Jesus in your heart and mind… wow! What a plan!
