Technology has come a long way. One thing necessary for travel these days, at least for most people, is the handy dandy GPS or navigation system. It may be on your phone or in your vehicle or both.
I will never forget the first time I used one. I was traveling to Ohio alone. I had set my GPS to take me to my desired location. I had full confidence that I would arrive. It was not my first trip to Ohio, in the past, I had my directions written down. This was going to be so much easier! So, I thought.
This little gadget was speaking directions to me all along the way. Everything was going well. Then it told me to turn a certain way that was unfamiliar. I immediately thought, “no, I have been here before, this is not the right way.” Instead of heeding its instruction, I decided I knew better and would go the way I thought was correct.
What happened? I was lost in an area that did not look safe. Especially for a woman traveling alone. I realized I should have listened to my GPS, now I had to find my way out of this mess. All the while, this little gadget was directing me to make a U-turn.
This week a friend and I were talking. She shared with me how, looking back, she felt she may have made a wrong move. She said she should have stayed on the path she was on, but she thought she had a better plan. She continued to share how she felt God was taking her backward. I could relate.
As we talked, I remembered a time when I was driving to Tulsa, for a television interview. On the way, I was talking with God. I shared with Him how I felt something was just not right. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I knew something was out of position.
He immediately dropped something in my heart. He said, “go back to where you missed me.” Suddenly I knew exactly where that place was. I did not feel condemned. I didn’t feel upset. I was excited! I had simply gotten off track. My God, in His faithfulness, was getting me back on track.
Proverbs 16:9 says, A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
I am so thankful for this truth. If your heart is to follow God, although, you, like me, may take a wrong turn, He will continue to direct your steps. Even if it requires a u-turn.
He is our GPS – our God Positioning System. If we get off track, He will direct us to make a U-turn and get back on His path. He doesn’t condemn. He doesn’t turn His back on us. He simply guides us back to the right path.
Just like with the GPS on my trip to Ohio, I thought I knew better than this gadget that was directing me. What I didn’t know that my GPS did know, was the roads had changed. Some were closed. Some were under construction. Therefore, it was taking me around all those problems.
So, it is with God. We may think we know the best route to where we want to go. However, He sees and knows EVERYTHING. He knows the problems ahead. He knows what we need to wait on. He knows where we can avoid problems. If we will only listen to Him and wait for His direction.
Isaiah 45:2 says, I will go before you and make the rough places smooth.
Many times, if we choose to go our own way, it will be a rough way. However, if we seek God and go His way, He will go before us and make the rough places smooth.
I have driven on rough roads, filled with potholes, and I have driven on smooth roads. Smooth roads are better.
Friends, today, allow God to be your Global Positioning System…He will never lead you in the wrong direction.
