O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love. Psalm 59:17

Last week I saw a video of a group of people praising God in Texas.

These people were in a shelter. Their homes had been destroyed. They lost everything. They had nothing but the clothes they wore. Their entire city was in devastation. They had every opportunity to be sad, mad and to feel defeated, yet there they stood, praising God from the depths of their soul. It was amazing!

As I listened in awe, I was reminded of a song by Casting Crowns called ‘I Will Praise You in the Storm.’ Allow me to share some of the words with you;

I was sure by now, God you would have reached down
And wiped our tears away,
Stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen
While it’s still raining
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear your whisper through the rain
I’m with you
And as your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
The God who gives and takes away
And I’ll praise you in this storm
And I will lift my hands
That you are who you are
No matter where I am
And every tear I’ve cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise you in this storm

It takes strength to praise God in the storm. It takes a firm faith to raise your hands in the midst of a shelter, knowing your home has been destroyed and lives have been lost. It’s not easy to praise God in a storm.

As I watched this group praise their God and felt the anointing of God that was upon their worship and praise, I was reminded of the scripture that says, ‘the eyes of God go to and fro across the earth, looking for those whose hearts are perfect before Him, to show Himself strong on their behalf.’ I wondered as I watched, what their God would do on their behalf.

A few days later I read this church choir group had been featured on a national television show because their video went viral. This program had given them a million dollars to begin to restore what had been lost.

Man saw their praise in the midst of devastating loss and they were moved. But even more than that, GOD saw their praise in the midst of the devastation and HE rewarded them. What a mighty God we serve.

I imagine there were thousands of people complaining and murmuring after the hurricane hit. I imagine there were many that said, ‘how could God let this happen?’ Yet, one small group stood out, the ones that chose to instead worship and praise their God and lift Him up. They lifted Him up at a low point in their life and He saw and He lifted them up. What an awesome God! What a faithful people!

Friends, I don’t know what storm is raging around you. But this I do know, if you praise God in the midst of it, He will see and He will lift you up. He is faithful and He is looking for those who will remain faithful to Him, regardless of what is going on. Will you be one of those? Will YOU praise Him in the storm?

Prayer for Today:
Father, help me to praise you in the storm. In the low points of my life, help me to recall Your faithfulness and Your love and help me know You are with me. For this I give you praise in Jesus name. Amen.
