Pressure – The act of squeezing or crushing. The state of being squeezed or crushed. The force of one body acting on another by weight or the continued application of power. A constraining force or impulse; that which urges or compels the intellectual or moral faculties; as the pressure of motives on the mind, or of fear on the conscience. That which afflicts the body or depresses the spirits; any severe affliction, distress, calamity or grievance; straits, difficulties, embarrassments, or the distress they occasion. Urgency; as the pressure of business.

We have all heard the saying ‘pressure produces diamonds.’ While this is true, diamonds are not the only thing pressure produces.

Over the weekend, I talked with several people who are feeling pressure from different areas. Pressure from voices of loved ones and friends telling them what they should do, pressure from their jobs. Pressure from circumstances. Just pressure all around.

2 Corinthians 4:8-10 says; We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed, always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.

The Amplified Bible says it like this; We are pressured in every way, hedged in, but not crushed; perplexed, unsure of finding a way out, but not driven to despair; hunted down and persecuted, but not deserted, to stand alone; struck down, but never destroyed; always carrying around in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the resurrection life of Jesus also may be shown in our body.

These scriptures are talking about pressures. We all face them. We all have felt hedged in, with no way out. The devil means for the pressure to crush you, to cause you despair, to cause you to feel deserted and destroyed. BUT GOD! God intends for the pressure to cause you to look to your true source, HIM, and allow Him to walk you through it.

He means for you to rest during the storms like Jesus did. He means for you to shake off the snakes, like Paul did. He means for you to stand your ground and trust Him, like Daniel did.

Yes, pressure can and does make diamonds, but pressure also makes bad decisions. Pressure can make divorces. Pressure can cause debt. Pressure, like most other things, can have a good outcome or a bad outcome. God tells us…choose life. In every situation, choose life.

Paul was showing us, yes, we can have pressure, but it does not have to crush us. We can be persecuted. Persecution is pressure from people. We can be persecuted and know we are not alone, God is still with us, and He will fight for us. He will never leave us nor forsake us. We may feel struck down at times, but we are not destroyed – our God is with us and greater is He who is in us than He who is in the world.

The scriptures goes on to say ‘we carry the death of Jesus in our body’ to me that means, we carry the fullness of what He completed at the cross in our very body and for THAT REASON, the resurrection power of Christ is in us and will work through us, if we allow it to.

I don’t know what kind of pressures you are facing today, but this I do know, your God is faithful and He will not allow you to be crushed, distressed and destroyed. Just keep your eyes on Him and remember that He is YOUR source. He will fight for you. He will keep you in peace as you keep your focus and mind upon Him. He will speak for you. He will bring you out into an abundant place and everyone will know that He is YOUR GOD.
When pressure comes, hold steady. Stand firm. Keep your eyes on God. Keep His word in your heart and coming out of your mouth. Allow that resurrection life to come forth and then you will see…pressure DOES make diamonds.

Prayer for Today: Father, I thank you that you are with me and you are for me. No weapon formed against me shall prosper and no harm will come near my dwelling. Thank you for your peace in the pressure. For this I give you praise. In Jesus name. Amen.
