As I stated earlier, I have been studying about finances and prosperity this week, and I want to share some things I am renewing my mind about, if I may. Let’s look at a familiar passage of scripture found in Matthew.
Matthew 6: 24-33 says; No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Most of us are familiar with these scriptures and many of us have heard them taught over and over again, I know I have. However, I was listening to a well-known minister teach on this scripture this week. He talked about a time when there was lack in his ministry. He was a Pastor, a minister, doing the work of God, but he still had much lack. He said he never had enough to do what he wanted to do for ministry. He said as he sought the Lord one morning the Lord took him to this scripture. The Lord said to him ‘many of my people know this scripture but few of them live it.’ He went on to say that the Lord told him that he wasn’t doing what this scripture said, therefore he had violated this principle of prosperity and therefore did not qualify. OUCH!
In these scriptures I want to look at a couple words that jump out at me. In the final part, the principle God is talking about, it says; BUT…seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.
To seek means; to seek by thinking, meditating, reasoning and inquiring of and to seek in order to find. Righteousness is defined as the doctrine concerning how things should be done, the correct way to think, feel and then act.
Therefore we are to seek by meditating on the word of God, the doctrine that shows us how things should be done and then doing them God’s way. When we do this, we have a promise….ALL THESE THINGS SHALL BE ADDED TO YOU. All these things include the things he talked about in the scripture, everything that pertains to life, what you eat, what you drink and what you put on your body. ALL things that pertain to life and life more abundantly will be added to you.
Here is my conclusion. God has made a way for us to live without worrying about what we eat, where we live, and what we wear, the only question is, have we violated the principle, do we qualify? There is absolutely no reason we can’t all live without lack, we only have to do things His way and continue to do things His way…it may not happen overnight, but His word will not return void.
Are we seeking first God and His way of doing things? And then are we actively doing them His way? Today I want you to ask yourself those two questions and be honest with yourself. If you are not qualifying…no problem, begin today to seek Him and His ways and then do what His way says to do…and from this day forth He will bless you. You have His word on it.
