Do you find yourself in a wilderness of sorts today? If so, I have great news for you!

As I drove to work today, I was praying about some things in my life. In my conversation to God I began to say… ‘Look God, how You provided for the children of Israel in the wilderness, they ate daily, their shoes didn’t even wear out!!’ My mind went back to the way God provided for His children, even in the wilderness. That was the truth I pondered on the rest of the way to work.

I began my work day, checking emails, and forgot what I had prayed…until I read an email from my friend, Karen Hardin. When I saw the title, I knew God was giving me an answer to my earlier prayer.

Today, I want to share Karen’s article with you as I believe it will encourage you, I know it encouraged me. Not only that, but her writing caused me to see the wilderness in a different light, for that I am grateful. For more of her wonderful writings, visit her website at

Someone asked me to pray for them this week. They had been experiencing a very difficult season financially and although they had prayed, fasted and stood in faith, they hadn’t seen the breakthrough needed.

When she came to me for prayer, there were bills coming due and in the natural the finances weren’t there to cover them.
“Will you pray for me?” she asked.

As I prayed, the Lord spoke a word to me that I know is for many right now. He said:

Even in the desert, “I will provide.”

Are you in a desert or wilderness season? If so, God provides even in the wilderness. It is not a place of lack.

The desert is a place of protection, provision and preparation for the next season. It is the pre-emptive season before an upgrade.

God provided for the Israelites when they were in the desert. And this is the thing about God…He never changes.

While in the desert, their clothes did not wear out. Their shoes did not wear out. He provided water from a rock, manna from heaven and quail blew in enough to feed them for a month.

When we consider that most theologians estimate the number of men, women and children in the desert during the day of Moses to be around a million people, it makes the miracle of provision even more amazing.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Indeed, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain amount every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.”

“And it shall come to pass that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it will be twice as much as they gather daily.”
“So, Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, “At evening, you shall know that the Lord has brought you out from the land of Egypt. And in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord… (Exodus 16:4-7)

“In the evening the quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning a layer of dew was surrounding the camp. When the layer of dew evaporated, on the surface of the wilderness there lay a small flaky thing, as fine as the frost on the ground. When the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was.

And Moses said to them, “This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. This is what the Lord has commanded, every man is to gather of it according to what he will eat. An omer for every man, according to the number of your people. Every man should take for themselves enough for whoever lives in his tent.”

The children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less. When they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing left over, and he that gathered little had no lack. (Exodus 16:13-17)

Even in the desert, He said, “I will provide.”

The desert/wilderness was a place where His glory was revealed and where there was no lack! Look around you for what you have in your hand is enough. For the Israelites, sometimes there was only a rock, but it held provision as water poured out.

The desert didn’t look like a place of provision and yet it was.

It didn’t seem possible that there would be food enough for them, and yet there was.

Have you complained about your situation?

And even as they complained, God saw them and provided, because it was His GLORY that was being revealed to His people.

The desert seasons reveal who He is, His provision, His love and most importantly His glory. It is to reveal who He is and stir us to trust Him rather than our situation or circumstances. We LEARN in the wilderness/desert.

If God was able to provide for a million people in the DESERT, He can most certainly provide for your family of three or five or ten…whatever is your need which seems to have no provision.

He said there IS a place of provision. This isn’t about your need, it’s about His glory.

Look around you watch and see:
• Your desert will bloom like the rose.
“The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose.” (Isaiah 35:1)
• Whatever famine you have faced, He has said, ask Me for the former AND the latter rain.
“Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month” (Joel 2:23).
• This is not a day of lack. Instead, it is a day of provision. He is taking you to a new place, a new position and a new season. He is upgrading your thinking to see Him as the Provider, Jehovah Jireh the all sufficient one.

“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman and the planter by the one treading grapes. New wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills” (Amos 9:13).

This day look around you and see the desert with new eyes. For He has said,
Even in the desert, “I will provide.”

“I AM still and always MORE THAN ENOUGH.”

Has He provided for you miraculously in the desert? It is important that you build a memorial as a place of remembrance! Are you still standing to see His provision? Do you need prayer? Let me know.
