“Toil and trouble.”  This phrase ran through my mind as I hung up the phone from a conversation with a friend. I had been talking with her when she shared with me a conclusion she had come to about some things going on in her life.

You see, she had been toiling with a situation for some time.  Back and forth, it went.  She seemed to be doing everything she could to make it happen.  During our conversation I realized she was trying to make it happen, so I shared with her something the Lord had told me many years ago.

I told her how God had once said to me, “What you labor to get, you will labor to keep, what you toil to make happen, you must toil to maintain.”

The Bible says, “The blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow with it.”  Proverbs 10:22

One translation says it this way… “there is no painful toil with it.”

This is a rule I apply to my life in many ways.  When I begin to toil for something, I stop and take a step back.  I know, whatever it is, I will not want to toil to keep it, therefore I refuse to toil to get it.

Now, I am not saying everything from God comes easy – we know it doesn’t.  And some things are a fight.  Even in spiritual fights, peace rules and His way is easy through Christ. However, when you begin trying to finagle things around and do this and that to make it work…there is a problem.

My friend was trying to make things work, and trust me, she is good at making things work. However, in doing so, it would take her more into debt, when she had purposed in her heart to get out of debt.  She was toiling and it was bringing trouble.

That word sorrow in Proverbs 10:22, is the same word as toil.

God’s blessings are gifts, we do not have to toil for them.  Don’t get me wrong, we must be diligent to pursue the promises of God.  But we do not have to toil and labor.

Jesus said, “my yoke is easy; my burden is light.”

“You shall be led forth by peace.”

To toil is labor and hardship.  Jesus’ way is easy and light.

Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps.”

I have found in my life that there are times I think I should go a certain way or do a certain thing.  These are things I feel in my heart, however, if I seek the Lord, HE will direct me in the way I should go, and His way is always best because His way is a way of peace.

Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body, and be thankful.”

Isaiah 55:12 says, “You shall be led forth by peace.”

Peace is how God leads, if you don’t have peace in a situation…stop, look, and listen and make sure it is GOD that is leading you.

Friends, I don’t know what situations you have in your life today, but this I do know.  If you allow God to lead you HIS WAY, it will be a way of peace and without toil.  If you allow Jesus to guide you, His yoke is easy, and His burden is light…. His is a way of peace. Today, I am praying that the peace of God surrounds you and that you are led forth by the peace of God…into the blessings of God.  And in the blessings of God, there is no toil or trouble. Remember, the way you ATTAIN a thing, is the way you must MAINTAIN the thing – let’s attain in peace.

Appoint My Days

Because I have sown bountifully, I will reap bountifully.  Because I obey God, all of His blessings shall come upon me and overtake me.  I will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country, blessed when I come in and blessed when I go out. God causes all grace to abound toward me, that I always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. The Lord will command a blessing on me and my storehouse and in all to which I set my hand.

Deuteronomy 28, 2 Corinthians 9:8, 2 Corinthians9:6
