Recently, I find myself walking through something that is not very pleasant. Although it was not pleasant, I had peace. Peace is always my guide.
In the beginning, I talked to a few friends about this process. Then I noticed something. The more I talked about it, even with born again friends, the less peace I had. After the conversations, I would pray and seek God about why I didn’t have peace. It was puzzling to me. It only took me a couple conversations to realize this is not something I needed to be talking about. It was apparently between God and I. To maintain peace, I would have to keep my eyes on Him alone. To do that, I could not have the opinion of others rolling around in my mind. I was reminded of a scripture I once talked to Brother Norvel Hayes about. It is found in Galatians. But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood. Galatians 1:15-16. One translation says it like this; to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. In this age of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, our first response is often to consult with a friend or group of friends. Do not misunderstand me! I am all for godly counsel. The Bible says there is safety in the multitude of counsel. I am not against godly counsel at all. I recommend godly counsel quite often. That being said, there are times when God shows you a certain way to go and you can’t share it with most people. Perhaps it’s not to be shared with anyone at all. I remember Judy Jacobs once said to me, “You must be careful who you allow in the delivery room with you. Not everyone should be in your delivery room.” In many situations over the years, God has reminded me of this very statement. We do not need to talk the problem. We do not need everyone’s opinion. We only need to hear from God. Human opinions can bring harm, if they are not in agreement with what God has shown you. What you need to hear in every area of your life, is GOD INSPIRED words. That’s all you need to hear. If you get the opinion of several people, then that is what you will mediate on. And when you mediate on anything other than God’s word or what He has said, your peace will be challenged. This I have found to be truth. Isaiah 26:3 says; You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: because he trusts in You. There is a reason the word of God gives us this insight. To remain in peace, we must remain in God. Our mind, our thoughts, our words must be rooted and grounded in God and His word. This and this alone is what we must mediate on. That is, if peace is to remain. It seems the older I get, the less I talk. You see, I realize, I have nothing productive to say apart from God. I choose my words wisely these days. Why? Because words impact people. My opinion isn’t worth much. But God’s opinion. Now, that is worth something. Therefore, I do my very best to get the mind of God before answering questions or addressing situations. Be careful who you share your situations with. Especially the difficult ones. First, seek the face of God. Get His peace. Get His word and His opinion on it. Then, meditate on that. Peace will come. And peace will remain…as long as you remain in Him. |
