While watching a documentary one night, a statement was made which caused my spirit to jump within me.

The documentary was about a foal that was just born in the middle of winter.  It was having a very hard time.  It was not moving at all, barely breathing.  The family called the vet to come out and examine it.

After the vet visit, the family was told the foal would not make it through the night.  Now, this was a praying family.  They continued to pamper and pray over the little foal that they named Gabriel.

All through the night they prayed.  The next morning, they were caring for the little foal, trying to get it to eat.  Although they had tried to get it to eat all night, this time was different, it began to eat.  The family was overjoyed!  The father then made a powerful statement, at least to me.  He said, “eating is a sign of life!”

When he said those words, a scripture came to mind.  It is found in Matthew 4:4.

But Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Hebrews 4:12 says the word of God is alive and powerful!  The word is filled with life.

Life is produced through the word and if you eat of that word…it is a sign of life and it will produce life.  It is a sign that life is coming forth, just as it was with the foal.

As born-again Christians, we will not experience the life God has for us if we fail to eat daily of the word of God.  It is the ONLY place we will find life.

We eat of natural food to give our bodies strength and health.  We eat of spiritual food, the word of God, to do the same thing…for strength and health in our life.  If we go without natural food for a period of time, our bodies become weak.  The same thing happens when we go without the word of God for, our spiritual life and our faith will become weakened.

The word of God says Jesus is that bread of life.  He is our nourishment.  His word is what we need to feed upon.

John 1:1 in my opinion, is one of the most powerful scriptures in the Bible.  It says, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The word and God/ Jesus are one.  When we eat of the word, we are receiving all God is in our very being.  In our life.  In everything that surrounds us.  Life is coming into us, as we partake daily of the word of God.

I cannot emphasize enough how vital the word of God is.

It is not enough to simply know what the word says, we must eat of it daily.  We must partake of it…get it down inside of us.  Meditate on it.  Spend time studying the word of God.  Read the Bible daily, until the only thing coming out of our mouth is the word of God.  For when that happens, the only thing coming out of your mouth will be life.

Proverbs 18:21 says life and death are in the power of the tongue…LIFE or death literally comes out of your mouth each time you speak.  Think about that for a moment.

Life…the word…you cannot have one without the other.  Today, choose life.

Meditate on this:

Hold firmly to the word of life.  Philippians 2:16
