Have you ever had one of those days when things were going wrong one after another? Or where those around you were facing challenges and were bringing those frustrations to you? I think we have all had days like that. I know I have. Just a few days ago I had a day when the frustrations of others tried to steal my peace.
Thankfully, just before I began to get their calls, God had a friend send me something she had read online.
You know that scripture that says, “God will go before us and make the crooked places straight?” That is exactly what God did for me that day. He saw the frustrations coming and He sent me a word to hold onto so I would not be dragged down by their circumstances.
My friend had just read something online and felt led to share it with me. It said…
Ships don’t sink because of the water that is around them. Ships sink because of the water that gets in them. Don’t let what is happening around you get inside you and weigh you down.
Within an hour I began to receive several calls from different people. Each with a problem they were upset about. As I fought not to allow what was going on with them to affect me, I thought of what my friend had just sent me.
Don’t let what is happening around you get inside you and weigh you down.
As I renewed my mind to this timely word, I was equipped to handle the challenge and not allow what was happening with them to get into me, my heart, or my mind, and ruin my day. Praise the Lord!
God has made us many promises in His Word. One is that He will keep us in perfect peace as long as our mind is stayed on Him.
In Christ we have the victory every single time. We cannot be defeated by what is going on around us. Defeat comes when we allow it to get inside of us and weigh us down.
Isn’t that a powerful truth!
Every single day we have an opportunity to let something negative get inside our mind and our heart. It may be the problems of those we love. It may be a situation at the office. It may be something someone said about us. Regardless of what it is, it has no power to sink us, if we refuse to allow it to get inside of us.
In John 16:33, Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus didn’t say we were exempt from trouble. But He did say not to be concerned, for He has already overcome.
Whatever is going on today, He has overcome it. He has gained the victory for you!!! Your job is to keep your mind stayed on Him and remain in peace.
I have a scripture posted beside my desk from Isaiah 26:3. It has become a favorite of mine. It says, “With perfect peace You will protect those whose minds cannot be changed, because they trust You.”
I love that! It is my stand of faith. I will remain in perfect peace knowing God is protecting me. My mind cannot be changed because I trust Him. Concerning what? Concerning all His promises. My mind cannot be changed because He is faithful and He has promised a good outcome for me, He has overcome for me.
And He has overcome for you.
Don’t sink your ship. Don’t let the things around you get inside you. Keep peace, His peace, inside of you. Keep His Word alone inside of you. Nothing can sink His Word. You are more than a conqueror through Christ, never forget that.
