“Surround yourself with thanksgiving.”
These are the first words I heard upon waking early one morning this week.
Throughout the day, those words continued to come back to me… “surround yourself with thanksgiving.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Psalm 100:4 says, Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
God is telling us to surround ourselves with thanksgiving…and He doesn’t speak without purpose.
This is a challenging time for many of us. Daily we hear all the negative from the media as well as from many people around us.
It seems everywhere we look people are in fear, not knowing what’s coming next. We keep hearing, “we are in this together” yet we are told to stay apart. It seems like a bad movie some days. Yet, God has issued a command… “surround yourself with thanksgiving.”
Yet we all know thanksgiving doesn’t always come easy. When we are anxious and uncertain, it is hard to give thanks. Hard, but not impossible. In these times, thanksgiving may be a sacrifice.
Psalm 116:17 says, I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.
Some of the most powerful praise and thanksgiving we will ever give God is through sacrifice. When we don’t feel like giving thanks.
Remember, Gods will for us is to give thanks in all things. Not for all things – but in all things.
There is a special blessing in sacrificial thanksgiving.
Psalm 50:23 says, Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.
When we give praise, or thanksgiving, we glorify God. We take our eyes off ourselves and put them firmly on God and His word, where they should be.
I decided to look this verse up in a couple more translations, and I am so glad I did.
The New Living Translation says; But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me. If you keep to my path, I will reveal to you the salvation of God.
As we give thanks to God, He reveals salvation to us.
The Passion Translations says, His salvation will unfold as we give thanks. Isn’t that awesome!
That word salvation includes liberty, deliverance, prosperity, safety, and victory.
As we surround ourselves with thanksgiving, God unfolds and reveals salvation to us. He unfolds and reveals liberty, deliverance, prosperity, protection and victory to us.
This reason alone is enough for us to surround ourselves with thanksgiving.
Friends, we all have things we are thankful for. I encourage you today, surround yourself with thanksgiving, starting now. As you do, God will unfold His plan and His blessings in your life.
Meditate on this:
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 1 Chronicles 16:34
