It was early one morning; I was driving alone to another city.

As I always do, I began to pray over myself and my vehicle. It is a prayer I have prayed thousands of times in my life.

“Father, I thank You for a safe trip there and a safe trip back, I thank You that You have given Your angels charge over me…”

When these words came out of my mouth, the Holy Spirit stopped me in my tracks. I closed my mouth and listened. Here are the words I heard.

“I didn’t give my angels charge over you. I commanded my angels charge over you.”

That day, I began to pray differently. Stronger and with more authority concerning this verse of scripture.

It is found in Psalm 91:11.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

This is the way it reads in the KJV and this is the way I have always quoted it. God was simply leading me to a deeper meaning.

I began to search the definitions of the words in this verse to find give means to make a present of…as in giving a birthday or Christmas gift.

However, the word charge is entirely different. It means to command or direct with the authority to back it up.

When God says He is giving His angels charge over you and your family, He is saying, “I have commanded them to watch over you and keep you in all your ways. It is non-negotiable. It is a command. And I have the authority to back it up.”

Now, that may not make a big difference to you – but it did to me that day. Especially in the world we are living in today. I am comforted to know my family and I are protected by God’s command for His mighty warring angels to encamp about us and keep us safe.

As we continue to walk with God, seek His face and study His word, He will lead us deeper and deeper into the things of God. This, for me, was one of those.

The Bible says faith comes by hearing. (Romans 10:17)

Upon hearing God speaking to me about this, it increased my faith in the promise of His angels watching over me. I have a new, deeper confidence as I pray over me, my family and my trips.

Today, my friend, God has commanded His angels over you and your family. It is not an option. It is a command from One who has the authority to back it up. Take this promise as your own.
