As I was thinking about Valentines Day this week, my thoughts continually went to a scripture I love.
It is found in Song of Solomon 3:4. It says, “I have found the one whom my soul love, I held him and would not let him go.”
Today, people all around the world are buying roses and gifts and making dinner plans for the one they love. That is a good thing. I would certainly not want to take away from that.
Yet, I can’t stop thinking about our Lord in all of this. And I can’t stop thinking about this scripture.
I wonder today, “is this what Jesus is to us?”
Do we see Him as a wonderful treasure we have found and refuse to let go of? Are we holding on tightly to Him and His word?
Or is He an afterthought? Is He someone we turn to only when we need help with something?
I don’t know about you, but I don’t care for people coming to me only when they want something. If a person is important to me, I want a relationship with them. I want to know them, to trust them, to be able to rely on them. And for them to be able to rely on me.
As I pondered all this today, I remembered an article I once read about hearts beating as one.
It was a medical article. A doctor had two separate hearts in his two hands. They were each beating at a different rhythm. However, when he touched the two hearts together, their beats synchronized and began to beat in unison, as one heart.
I want my heart to beat as one with the one I love. With Jesus. With the Father. With the Holy Spirit. Therefore, I must allow His heart to touch mine. And make sure that my heart touches His.
How do we do that? By spending time with Him daily. Not just prayer time listing our needs and wants. But intimate time in His presence. Just because we want to be with Him.
Instead of asking for things, spend time in His presence thanking Him for who He is to you. For what He has done for you.
Love on Him.
He doesn’t want you just coming to Him when you need something. He wants a relationship with you. He wants to be part of your day – and part of your night. He cares about every little thing that concerns you – let Him into those things.
The One whom my soul loves. Have you found Him? If you have, hold tight and never let go.
And today, amongst the flowers and the candy, remember to let Him know how very much you love Him. And how thankful you are for His word.
After you have blessed HIM today, be sure to be a blessing to someone else…let them know you love them…you appreciate them…that you care.
We love you Lord! You ARE the One our soul loves…today we hold tight to your faithfulness and your unfailing love.
Meditate on this:
Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. John 15:9
