As I sat in my kitchen, reading my Bible, I heard a sound. It was quite distinctive, it was the sound of two shofar blasts.

That may sound odd to you however, God often causes me to hear sounds in different seasons. As I heard this sound I was reminded of a time last year when God spoke to my heart and said ‘the sound is the sign.’

Where I live, if I am sitting on my back porch swing, I have woods at the side of my house to the right. On my left, I have woods about a quarter mile away. Because of these woods, when a storm or heavy winds are approaching, I can sit on my swing and watch the trees blow and hear the winds blow moments before I feel the effects of the storm and winds. I don’t know why…but I just love doing that.

Last night was a night just like that. I had spoken to Breanne on the phone and she told me there was a storm coming across the mountain. I went out to my back porch to watch it come across the mountain, to hear the sound of it coming before I could feel the effects of it.

Sure enough, I heard the sound of the wind and watched the trees blow with a strong wind moments before I felt the wind and the rain on my back porch. I took a deep breath and breathed it all in – I loved it.

As I sat there, God reminded me of something that had happened a couple weeks before.

On that particular day we were running errands. In the midst of the drive I reminded Breanne that we we had some small chances of rain in our area. Breanne had stopped at the auto parts store to buy new windshield wipers and replace hers while it was still sunny outside. Once she had her purchase in hand we walked to her truck and she started opening her wipers to replace them. Brailee had climbed in the back of the truck to play while her mom changed the wipers.

Suddenly I heard a noise. It was loud and fast approaching. I said, ‘what is that?’ Suddenly, I realized what it was and I grabbed Brailee and put her in the truck and yelled for Breanne to get in. I was hearing the sound of a downpour! Before Breanne and I could get in, it was upon us.
The Lord began to speak to me. He took me to 1 Kings 18 when Elijah said, I hear the sound of an abundance of rain. To my knowledge, I had never heard that sound before that day – the sound of an abundance of rain…but I must say…it was awesome to hear and relate to scripture!

That day, as I sat on my back porch watching the storm come in the Lord said ‘the sound was your sign.’ Even the day I heard the sound of the downpour, I knew it was a sign…but I didn’t put it all together until today.

Let’s look at the scriptures I am referring to; 1 Kings 18:41-46 says; Then Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees, and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” So he went up and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And seven times he said, “Go again.” Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, “There is a cloud, as small as a man’s hand, rising out of the sea!” So he said, “Go up, say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.’” Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel. Then the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Here are the things that jump out at me today. First of all, Elijah said he heard the sound of an abundance of rain BEFORE he prayed the first time and before he heard the sound with his physical ears. Secondly, even though he heard the sound of rain in his spirit, he still prayed until he began to see evidence of his prayers being answered. He didn’t stop praying just because he sensed something in the spirit.

He ‘heard’ the sound of something coming! He picked it up in the spirit, he couldn’t see it or feel it but he KNEW it was coming! Therefore, he bowed before the Lord and prayed. He didn’t say ‘well, I guess it’s done, I can stop praying.’

Seven times he sent his servant to look for rain and when his servant said he saw nothing six times, he continued to bow and pray. But oh, my, on the seventh time, he saw the cloud the size of a man’s hand and Elijah knew he had better run or the rain would be upon him.

I don’t know where you are today and I don’t know what ‘sound’ you are hearing in your spirit. But this I do know, if you are hearing a sound, you are sensing the vibration of something coming toward you. Don’t stop now! First, declare what you are hearing in the spirit and then bow before the Lord and pray. It doesn’t matter if it if takes seven minutes, seven hours, seven days or seven weeks, don’t stop until you see a manifestation of the thing that you are hearing coming your way.

For me, I hear the sound of rain. An abundance of rain. That is my sign. I believe it is a sign for those of you who can receive this word in your spirit. Can you hear the sound? The sound is the indication, the sign that something is coming. Rain symbolizes life, recovery, restoration, harvest. Rain means fish will be caught again, crops will grow again, rivers will run again – life will flow freely. I hear the sound of an abundance of rain.

This may not mean much to some of you, but to a few of you, it means everything! It is on its way. It’s coming! Keep praying. Keep believing! Keep bowing before the Lord. Keep expecting! I heard the sound of rain, an abundance of rain, and the sound WAS my sign. Praise the Lord and keep praying! Listen friends…listen for the sound.

Prayer for Today: Father, I thank you for the sound of an abundance of rain! I will continue to bow before you until the rain is upon me and my household. For this, I give you praise. In Jesus name. Amen.
