[I once read a story that was so good it has stuck with me for several years.

As the story was told, a pilot was in the midst of his flight for the day when he saw something that terrified him.  Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a rat in the cockpit and it was chewing on wires!

“Oh my! I am going to have to land this plane quickly, before he chews through the wires causing the plane to crash!”  He exclaimed.

But that wasn’t his final thought.  As quick as that thought came and went, he knew exactly what to do.  Instead of landing the plane, he decided to go higher, to an altitude where the rat could no longer live.

Instead of panicking and frightening the passengers with a sudden landing, he simply went higher.

Higher and higher he went. He continued to rise until he was at a level so high the rat died.  Problem solved.

From the first time I read this story, I knew it was, at least for me, revelation from God.  It would be something that would empower me to deal with rats that tried to stop me in my tracks…to rid myself of them, I only had to rise higher in God.

This pilot had two choices.  He could have landed the plane and fought with the rat until it was dead.  This would have caused delays, not only for him but for everyone on that plane.  Appointments would have been missed.  Plans would have been aborted.  It would have been chaos and then some.

Or he could go higher and the problem would take care of itself, which it did.

Many in the Body of Christ do the same thing.  We spend all our time dealing with the rats and the things that are trying to stop us when all we need to do is go higher and God and allow Him to take care of these things.

Are you spending time fighting the rats on their level?  Or, are you choosing to go higher in God and let things work out for your good, just as God has promised?  That’s a question we should all ask ourselves on a regular basis.

Rats will come.  Things will attempt to stop us.  However, how we choose to deal with them will be the final determining factor.

Colossians 3:1-2 says, “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”

If we are to continually walk with God and walk like Jesus walked, then we must set our minds on things above.

We can’t allow the things of this world to demand our focus, or to keep us at a level beneath what we are destined for.

Instead, we must keep our thoughts on the Word of God and His plan.  In doing this, we will rise above the things that are trying to keep us down.  The things that are trying to abort our flight plans.

I am reminded of Isaiah 60:1 from the Amplified Bible.

“Arise from spiritual depression to a new life, shine be radiant with the glory and brilliance of the Lord; for your light has come, and the glory and brilliance of the Lord has risen upon you.”

When we were born again, we were raised to a new life in Christ.  We are not supposed to be under things that are not of God, we are supposed to arise and sit with Him in heavenly places!

Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, declares the Lord.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.”

Friends, God never said our thoughts couldn’t line up with His, He only said His were higher.  We can discipline ourselves to come up higher in our thoughts.  Jesus prayed that we would be One in Him as He is one in the Father?  If we are one in Him, our thoughts will be higher and aligned with His.

This week, when rats get in your way, don’t fear, go up higher.  When things try to pull you down, don’t allow them to, instead, arise even higher in God.  It’s time to arise and attain to the levels we were destined to arrive – it’s our year – may we arise.
