Last year I wrote about building a strong wall of defense around us and our family. This writing came to mind today as I was praying about the days ahead. Today, more than ever, it is vital to build an impenetrable wall of the Word of God around us and our family. It is even more relevant now.
…a time to break down, and a time to build up. Eccl 3:3
This scripture came to mind as God, once again, gave me instruction for the season we have entered. His instruction for the past few weeks has been simple. Build a wall. Build your wall.
In Bible times, walls were built for security and protection. They were also built for defense against their enemies.
Most of us are familiar with the story of Nehemiah. He rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem in the second chapter of Nehemiah. These were walls that were once strong and impenetrable. They were built to protect and give security to the people, but they been destroyed. Nehemiah would begin to rebuild these walls. We know from the Bible, great resistance came against him while building the walls. The enemy knew once the walls were built, Nehemiah and his people would be safe from all harm. Therefore, they were resisted on every turn.
Psalm 122:7 says, Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.
Isaiah 26:1 says, In that day, everyone in the land of Judah will sing this song: Our city is strong! We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation.
There are many more scriptures concerning walls in the Bible. You can search them out. For me, this was enough to start me on my journey of building my walls. It’s something I knew God was instructing me to do. So, how then do we build our walls?
We create and build the same way God did. With the words of our mouth.
The Bible says Jesus is our firm foundation. He is also the corner stone. We build on Him and His Word – which, of course, are one.
We read in the book of Joshua 6, how the walls of Jericho came down with a shout. It began to make perfect sense to me. If the walls came down with words of their mouth – they can surely go up with anointed, God breathed words of our mouth.
Every time we pray, confess, or worship God, we are erecting our walls. The more we do this, the greater our wall becomes. The stronger and more fortified it is, as we confess His Word over our life and the life of our families.
As you build with the Word of God, you and your family become surrounded with the Word of God. Imagine that for a moment. If you are surrounded by the Word of God, you are surrounded by Jesus Himself. If Jesus surrounds you…, are you then safe and protected? Of course!
God is telling me, telling us, to build our walls. To create, with the Words of our mouth, a fortified place where we are protected from our enemy. That place is the Word of God. That place is the blood of Christ. That place is in Him.
Personally, I have begun to daily and purposefully build my wall.
I penned scripture for myself, my family, for finances, health, home, and everything else that came to mind. Then I began to confess these words each day.
I want to leave you with one final scripture on this subject. It is a scripture God led me to as I was studying to build my wall. It is found in Micah 7:1.
In the day when your walls are to be built, in that day the decree shall go far and wide.
You see, building our walls has everything to do with our decree! But hold on, let me share one more translation with you today, from Young’s Literal Translation:
The day to build thy walls! That day — removed is the limit. REMOVED IS THE LIMIT.
Wow! The day we begin building our walls – the limits are removed! Praise the Lord!!!
