There is a subject God has been dealing with me strongly about for a few weeks.
I was not surprised when I received a call from a friend over the weekend sharing with me that God had been dealing with her about the same thing.
Unnecessary words.
Weeks ago, in my daily conversations, God began to speak to my heart and say, “were those words necessary, which words were not necessary?”
With this correction, I began to listen closely to my words and the words of others.
In one conversation, a friend said this; “I have been believing God for the same thing, much longer than she has, but she got her answer first. However, I am rejoicing with her.”
Matthew 5:37 say; But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
Based on this scripture, the only words necessary would have been…I am rejoicing with her for God answered her prayer.
Another example would be; “I know you won’t like this, but I am going to do….”
How do you know they won’t like it? Why not expect the best and simply say what you are going to do?
Jesus said the words He spoke are spirit and life. Since we are in Him, the words we speak are also spirit and life. Proverbs 18:21 tells us life and death are in the power of our tongue and we will eat the fruit of them.
What God has shown me is this; every single word that comes out of my mouth feeds something. It either feeds life or death. It is entirely up to me. What do I choose to feed today…life or death?
Unnecessary words do not feed life.
Matthew 12:37 tells us that we are justified or condemned by our words. That is a powerful statement.
I have always thought I watched my words, but as God has begun to deal with me about unnecessary words, I have found I was not watching my words as well as I should have.
Jesus said, “I only say what I hear the Father say.” Think about that today. A day in the life of Jesus. He said NOTHING except what He heard God say. Nothing. Can you imagine that?
The Bible says our words, each one, accomplishes something. It doesn’t return void. What are your words accomplishing today?
I know this message today is not a feel-good message. My goal is not to make you feel good. My goal is to empower you to survive every challenge that comes your way and thrive in the Kingdom of God. It’s time to thrive! Much of the Kingdom life has to do with what is coming out of our mouth.
The Bible says everything is created by the word of God and the words we speak. What are you creating?
My prayer for us today is this; Set a guard over our mouth Lord, keep a watch over our words and help us watch our words, may the words of our mouth be pleasing to you God. Keep us from all unnecessary words. May our yes be yes and our no be no, knowing anything else is from the evil one. Cleanse our mouth Lord, and cause us to say ONLY what You say. In Jesus name. Amen.
