It was one of those days when God had me call a few people on the phone. Just to encourage them.
After the third time God had me make a call, I thought of a scripture in Proverbs.
A man has joy in giving an appropriate answer, and how good and delightful is a word spoken in due season, (at the right moment) how good it is! Proverbs 15:23
Chances are, at some point in each of our lives, we’ve been on the receiving end of a word spoken in due season.
Perhaps you were encouraged by the faithfulness of a friend who had the perfect word at the perfect moment. Or uplifted by a sermon that said exactly what you needed to hear. Few things are better than knowing our God just made sure we received the exact message we needed at the right moment.
I know this has happened to me many times in my life. I thank God for those times. I also thank God for the people He used to send that word in due season.
Proverbs 16:24 says, Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweet and delightful to the soul and healing to the body.
Isaiah 50:4 says, The Lord God has given Me the tongue of one who is taught, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word.
His Word is alive and full of power. When it comes out of our mouth, just as Jesus said, it is filled with life and spirit. It will bring life and sustenance to those who hear and receive it.
Looking at Proverbs 15, we see there is an appropriate answer. In Isaiah 50, we see it is a taught word.
What does that mean? That means as we stay in the Word of God and in His presence, He teaches us, by His spirit, how to give the weary a word in due season. Just at the time when they need it most.
We will not have the right words unless we allow God to teach us. We must spend time in His Word so that we have the right answers when He sends the weary across our path.
Friends, there are so many weary around us. We need a word in due season. We need, as people of God, to be equipped to encourage the discouraged when the situation demands it.
We need to be ready to share the good news of the gospel with those who are cast down and depressed. But before we can share it, we must allow God to teach us.
Today, allow God to teach you and guide you. Allow Him to use you to encourage others. Allow Him to fill your mouth with words of life to help bring healing to the weary. Be one who has the tongue of the taught. Be one who has a word to encourage in due season. As you do, your words will be sweet and delightful to their soul, and healing to their body.
