This past Thursday I was privileged to see my grandchildren in an activity I love to watch. I sat on my back porch and watched as Brailee attempted kite flying for the first time. It took me back several years ago when Bryson first attempted kite flying. Although I love to watch them, the first day it was almost hard to watch. There was more running than flying. Brailee and Bryson ran and ran and ran trying to get their kites to fly. Every now and then they were able to get the kites in the air for a few moments. However after a couple hours of running and trying to get their kites to fly, they were exhausted.

That night I read a prophecy about wind that jumped in my spirit. The prophecy said “This will be a month the trees begin to shake. If you will step out into the wind when the wind begins to blow, then you will hear where you need to go. I am sending My people this way and that way! In the midst of the wind blowing, new strategies for increase will blow in the wind. Make a list of every way you’ve increased in the past. Then hear Me blow! My wind of multiplication will blow you into a strategy of increase for the future.” (Chuck Pierce)

The next morning, as I was working, I heard a sound. The sound caused me to look out my window. The wind was whipping, the trees were blowing hard. The word I just read the night before about the wind came to mind again. However, the day became busy yet every now and then I would look out the window and marvel at the wind.

That afternoon when the kids came over I showed Brailee how strong the wind was. I explained to her how it would help her kite to fly high. She was very excited, Bryson was as well. They both grabbed their kites and headed outside. Oh my! It was an amazing thing to watch. The wind picked up their kites without them having to run and run. Their kites flew extremely high with no effort, they were ecstatic!

As I stood there watching them with their kites, the Lord spoke to me and said ‘what a difference the wind makes!’

I could see the difference, their kites were flying high above the trees and the house with no effort. I knew the Lord was speaking to me about the wind, but I also knew he wasn’t talking just about the natural wind, but the wind of the spirit.

For months I have been seeing the same numbers over and over again, generally when that happens God is trying to get something across to me. The numbers I kept seeing were 8:26. After seeing those numbers many times, I sought the Lord for its meaning.

He took me to Romans 8:26; “But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

It is the spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, which empowers us and our prayers to soar higher than we can imagine with little effort. When we have a situation where we don’t know how to pray, the Holy Spirit helps us by praying for us and through us. That is an amazing gift.

1 Cor. 14:2 says; “for he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.”

Praying in the Spirit speaks the mysteries of God, directly to God….praying in the spirit is the wind beneath our prayers.

The Holy Spirit also speaks truth to us, reveals truth to us, He guides us into all truth AND He shows us things to come, as we see in John 16:13; “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

If you find yourself in a time of prayer where your prayers don’t seem to get off the ground or where you are laboring in your prays and seeing no results – perhaps it is time to add the wind of the spirit to your prayers by spending time praying in the spirit.

Praying in the spirit builds up your faith and faith pleases God. Jude 1:20 says; But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.

Faith is the substance of what we are believing for. As I have been teaching lately, the greater our faith, the more capacity we have to receive what God has for us – praying in the spirit increase and expands our faith to a place where we can receive all God has for us.

That day, I smiled as I watched the kids kites soar higher than could have ever imagined with little effort. As God began to speak to me about the difference the wind makes, I knew he was showing me that we can have results of flying higher than we can imagine, reaching heights we only dream of, just like the kites. And we can do that by incorporating the wind into our daily prayer life – the wind of the spirit.

Today, if you have prayers you can’t get off the ground, begin spending time each day praying in the Spirit. Even if it is only 30 minutes a day – it will make a huge difference. Before you know it you will soar to new heights in God, higher than you ever imagined with little effort…its time to soar…it’s time to take flight…allow the wind of the Spirit to take you to places you’ve only dreamed of. It’s time, can’t you hear the wind blowing? Step into it and soar!
