Several years ago, Jesse Duplantis taught a message on a choking point.

How much can you believe God for?  At what level or amount will you choke, or be unable to receive what God is offering?

It always makes me think of the man in the Bible who ask Jesus for something and Jesus said, “If you can believe, you can have it.”  The man responded, “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.”

This message was talking about the point you get to where you can no longer easily believe.  I call it your capacity to receive.

There have been times in my life when God has told me to increase my capacity to believe.  I knew in those times that my faith wasn’t at a level to receive what God wanted to bring into my life.

Choking points came to my mind today as I was spending time with God.  It was one of the sermons that really spoke to Breanne at the time.  I remember the times I offered to do something for Breanne and she would respond, “Sure, Mom, I refuse to choke.”  Meaning, you can do whatever you want for me, I WILL HAPPILY RECEIVE IT.

As I thought about this today, God began to speak to me about a choking point.  Not in receiving.  In giving.

I once heard Kenneth Hagin Sr. tell a story about this very thing.  He shared that a man in his church came to him and ask for prayer.  The man shared that his business was struggling. He had recently learned about tithing.  He vowed to tithe from his business and ask Kenneth Hagin to pray over his business.  They prayed over his business and it began to grow and grow.  He became very wealthy.  His tithe got bigger and bigger.  To the point, it started to make him nervous to write his tithe check.

He returned again for prayer.  He said his tithe had become so big that he needed wisdom to know what to do about it.  Kenneth Hagin prayed God would stop causing him to increase.  The man, stunned, said, “No, no!  That’s not what I meant.” Mr. Hagin knew this man had reached his choking point.  I see it over and over again.

It’s easy for people to tithe when their tithe is $5.00 a week, but when God increases them to the point that it is $500.00, many choke.

Or people will become faithful to tithe on their paycheck, but when other increase comes into their hands, especially if it is a large amount, they will not tithe on it.  I want you to know, when we do this, we are showing God our choking point.  This determines the amount He can bless us with.  This becomes our cutoff point.

Luke 16:10 says, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.”

Luke 6:38 says, “For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Galatians 6:7 says, “Don’t be misled; remember that you can’t ignore God and get away with it: a man will always reap just the kind of crop he sows!” (TLB)

I don’t know what your goals are financially.  But this I do know, God will take you as far as He can trust you.  If He can only trust you with $500, you may never get past that point.  However, you show yourself faithful with that $500, He will increase you to the choking point.  And if you have no choking point of being faithful in your finances, there will be no limits.

I began tithing on $148.00 a week when I worked for Norvel Hayes Ministries years ago.  Each year, as I remained faithful in whatever came into my hand, God increased my income along with my tithe and offering.  I will remain faithful.  I will not even entertain the thoughts of a choking point in my finances.  I have determined to be faithful at all times an in all amounts.

Where are you today?  Do you find it easy to be faithful with $500 but impossible to remain faithful with $2000 or $12,000?  If so, you have reached your choking point – you will not be able to move past it.  However, if you are committed to give to God what belongs to Him, regardless of the amount – the sky is the limit.

I fully believe this is a year God wants to pour out unprecedented blessings upon His people – will you be one of those?  Can you be trusted with unlimited increase?  If you can be trusted and if you have been faithful – God is about to pour out on you like never before.  Make a plan and get ready for increase – for it will come and it will not tarry.

Meditate on this:

A faithful man will abound with blessings, but whoever hastens to be rich will not go unpunished.  Proverbs 28:20
