I woke up today with a thought, several actually. First, I was thinking about Thanksgiving coming up next week, making plans in my mind.
And I was thinking about how many news outlets are telling people not to gather for Thanksgiving. It seems quite odd to me when I see the crowds at Hobby Lobby, Walmart, and Lowes. My family will gather and give thanks.
Then I began to think about where our mind is today.
Where is your mind? Did you wake up with exciting thoughts about Thanksgiving coming up? Or did you wake up with a sense of dread of all that is going on in the world?
This year has caused many to no longer look forward to the days ahead. Some have lost hope for a better day. That is sad to me. And it reminds me of something Brother Norvel Hayes used to say to me. “God never has a bad day.”
I can see him saying it now, with his dark sunglasses on and his shiny white patten leather shoes. He often wore sunglasses, and I would say to him, “Your future is so bright, you have to wear shades.” He would laugh and agree. Silly, I know. But it is what came to mind today.
Where has hope and happiness gone? The Bible says laughter is good medicine, but I don’t hear much laughter these days. I went to Hobby Lobby a few days ago, it was absolutely packed – but no one looked happy. No one seemed to be enjoying themselves. Even children seem to be stressed. It was not a good atmosphere at all.
As I thought on all this today, a scripture came to mind. Oh, I know it is one I share often, but it is truth.
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You… (Isaiah 26:3)
The next sentence gives the key to this perfect peace… “Because he trusts in You.”
The Passion Translation says it like this…
“Perfect, absolute peace surrounds those whose imaginations are consumed with you; they confidently trust in you.”
To imagine is to form a mental image of something. One definition says, to form a notion of without sufficient basis.
This is what I see happening, people are forming mental thoughts with no truthful basis. Do not get your ‘truth’ from the media – I don’t know of one single thing they have said this year that has proven to be truth.
Our truth comes from one place. God and His word. Jesus is the truth. He is the way. He is the life. If we keep our mind stayed upon Him, we will remain in peace.
We simply cannot sit and imagine bad or negative things all day and live in peace. Our imagination must be filled with His word and what He said is coming to pass. He has not changed His mind – not one bit.
Peace only comes when our mind is on HIM…and when we trust HIM.
Instead of sitting around imagining bad scenarios how about sitting around imagining what you are going to be doing when every prayer you have prayed manifests right before your eyes. How about imagine what you will do with your harvest? Imagine how great you will feel when healing manifests.
“Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Phi. 4:8)
Whatever things are true, these are the thing we are supposed to think on.
The truth is God is faithful and He has not changed. The truth is what God has promised He will fulfill. The truth is you will walk in peace as you remain hidden in Him. The truth is no weapon formed against you shall prosper. That, my friend, is the truth. Meditate on that. Imagine those things. Keep your mind on Him, exactly where it needs to be.
Meditate on this:
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. John 16:33
